Previously the Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court did not grant 16% reservation to the Maratha community students for admissions to post-graduate (PG) medical courses and dental courses because the admission process had begun much earlier.

The Supreme Court had upheld the high court’s decision.

The Maratha students welcomed the Devendra Fadnavis government’s decision to amend the Act.

The candidates would, however, continue protesting till they get joining orders from the Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell.
