Bhagat Singh Koshyari stepped down after a sour relationship with Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government led by Uddhav Thackeray. Formerly, Ramesh Bais was the governor of Jharkhand. President Droupadi Murmu accepted Bhagat Singh Koshyari’s resignation.

About Bhagat Singh Koshyari
Indian politician Bhagat Singh Koshyari served as Maharashtra’s 22nd governor from 2019 to 2023. An RSS veteran, Koshyari served as National Vice-President of BJP and the party’s 1st State president for Uttarakhand. From 2001 to 2002, he also held the position of second Chief Minister of Uttarakhand.
He also served as an MLC in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council and MLA in Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly. He later served as an MP in Rajya Sabha from 2008 to 2014 from Uttarakhand and then the MP in the 16th Lok Sabha from the Nainital-Udhamsingh Nagar constituency, earning him the distinction of being elected in both houses of the State Legislature and both houses of the National Parliament respectively.
About Ramesh Bais
Ramesh Bais, an Indian politician, is the 23rd governor of Maharashtra at the moment. Bais earlier served as the Governor of Jharkhand from 2021 to 2023 and the Governor of Tripura from 2019 to 2021. He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party and has served in various political capacities throughout his career, including as a Union Minister of State for Environment and Forests in the government of Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
As a representative of the Raipur constituency, Bais has been elected seven times to the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Indian Parliament. He served as a member of the 9th Lok Sabha in 1989 and the 11th through 16th Lok Sabhas (1996-2019).

India, China: Interest in buying Russian arms:
Dmitry Shugayev, the head of Russia’s Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation, told the agencies that India, China and some Southeast Asian countries have continued to have interest in buying Russian arms.
The agency reported that annual arms exports have been about $14-15 billion, with the order book steady at around $50 billion.
Russia’s S-400 Triumf missile defence systems, short-range surface-to-air missiles systems such as the Osa, Pechora or Strela, as well as Su-30 warplanes, MiG-29 helicopters and drones have been of special interest to Asian countries, Shugayev said.

Notably, following Ukraine’s invasion, several Western countries imposed sanctions on Russia, including on arms. Moscow has maintained that it is carrying out a “special military operation”.
The 14th international aerospace exhibition Aero India 2023 in Bengaluru will feature 200 samples of weapons and military equipment, according to the state-run TASS news agency. How are Governors appointed?
In accordance with Article 153 of the Constitution,“There shall be a Governor for each State.” According to Article 155 “the Governor of a State shall be appointed by the President by warrant under his hand and seal”.
Under Article 156, “the Governor shall hold office during the pleasure of the President”, but his term shall be five years. Articles 157 and 158 lay down the qualifications and terms of office of the Governor.
The Governor must be a citizen of India and must have completed 35 years of age. The Governor should not be a Member of Parliament or State Legislature, and should not hold any other office of profit.
The position of Governor is envisaged as a political head who has to act on the advice of the Council of Ministers of the State.

The exit comes days after Paytm posted its first-ever quarterly operating profit as a listed firm, nine months ahead of its own target. Alibaba.com According to NSE stock exchange records, Singapore E-Commerce Pvt Ltd sold 21.4 million Paytm shares for 642.74 rupees apiece, a 9% discount from Thursday’s closing price. Paytm’s stock tumbled nearly 8% to close at 650.55 rupees, but it is still up nearly 23% so far this year. It was not immediately clear why Alibaba sold the stake.
In January, Alibaba sold a 3.1% stake in the company through a block deal worth $125 million. Before that, the Chinese firm had a 6.26% stake in Paytm.

The data revealed that on Friday, Morgan Stanley Asia (Singapore) Pte purchased 5.42 million Paytm shares for 640 rupees. Paytm, which is also backed by China’s Ant Group and Japan’s SoftBank Group Corp 9984.T, has been under pressure to turn profitable ever since its dismal listing in November 2021.
The stock has declined around 70% since listing, and tumbled 60% in 2022. Macquarie Research double-upgraded the stock to “outperform” from “underperform”, and bumped up the price target by around 80% to 800 rupees.
