During the Asia Cup 2023 Super Four encounter against Sri Lanka in Colombo, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma scored his 10,000th ODI run. Rohit Sharma reached the milestone after scoring 23 with a six in his 241st innings in the format. 36-year-old Sharma became the sixth Indian batter to cross the landmark and the second-quickest overall after Virat Kohli in terms of innings played. In 2023, India moved up one position to 30th, with an overall score of 40.8. India was ranked 31st out of 85 countries the previous year, in 2022. India achieved its most remarkable performance in the “Movers” category, securing the 5th position. This category assesses countries based on their potential for future growth and their preparedness to address global economic issues. India ranked 29th and 10th in terms of cultural influence and legacy, respectively. India came in 12th place in the power category.
The Methodology Behind the Rankings
The rankings are developed in collaboration with global marketing communications company WPP and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Based on a global survey encompassing 87 countries and more than 17,000 respondents, these rankings evaluate countries based on 73 attributes such as dynamism, safety, economic stability, and commitment to social justice. Notably, Cyprus, Honduras, and Zimbabwe have made their debut in the rankings, while El Salvador rejoins the list after being absent in 2022.
