3000 Crore has been approved by Assam for economic corridor project

The Assam cabinet has unveiled an ambitious plan to establish a 1000-km long economic corridor, backed by a significant investment of Rs 3000 crore. The cabinet’s decision marks a substantial step forward in regional development.

In-Principle Approval Under Asom Mala Scheme

State Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah informed the press that the state cabinet has granted its in-principle approval for the project under the Asom Mala Scheme, indicating the government’s commitment to this substantial infrastructure endeavor.

Rural Infrastructure Improvement Funded by NABARD

  • In another significant development, the cabinet has approved projects totaling Rs 950 crore aimed at enhancing rural infrastructure.
  • Funding for these projects will be sourced through a loan from NABARD.
  • The funds will be used to upgrade 90 rural roads and four rural bridges managed by the Public Works Department.

Financial Prudence in Cabinet Meetings

  • In a move to exercise financial prudence, the cabinet has advised deputy commissioners to limit expenditure for cabinet meetings to Rs 5 lakh.
  • This measure includes discouraging new repair works on circuit houses and inspection bungalows.
  • It is noteworthy that the state cabinet convenes its meetings at various district headquarters.

Rotational Cabinet Meetings Across Districts

  • The cabinet also decided to rotate the locations of its meetings.
  • In the coming months, cabinet meetings in November and December will take place in Tinsukia and North Lakhimpur districts, respectively, while in January of the following year, the meeting will be held in Nagaon.

Eco-Sensitive Zone Declaration

  • Another important decision was the approval of the revised draft notification to declare an eco-sensitive zone in the 1 km radius around the Bherjan-Borajan-Padumoni Wildlife Sanctuary in Tinsukia.
  • This move aligns with a directive from the Supreme Court, highlighting the government’s commitment to environmental conservation.

Judicial Guest House and Office Building Approval

  • The cabinet granted its consent for the allotment of a plot for the construction of a judicial guest house in Kaziranga, intended to accommodate state guests and guests of the Gauhati High Court.
  • Additionally, the cabinet has approved an additional Rs 11.91 crore to facilitate the completion of a new office building for the Commissioner of Taxes, further enhancing administrative infrastructure in the state.
