Neeraja Prabhakar, Vice-Chancellor of Sri Konda Laxman Telangana State Horticultural University, has been appointed chairperson of the ICAR-Indian Institute of Oil Palm Research (IIOPR) at Pedavegi, Andhra Pradesh.Ms. Prabhakar’s appointment as RAC chairperson is effective from June 13 and she will lead a committee of ten members for a duration of three years.
In addition, Ms. Prabhakar serves as a member of the Telangana Oil Palm Advisory Committee, which advises the State government on matters such as expanding the area dedicated to oil palm cultivation, addressing issues related to oil palm farming, and supporting the oil palm processing industry. She has stated Telangana’s resolve to alleviating the country’s edible oil shortfall by increasing oil palm farming to 20 lakh acres, with a goal of reaching at least 10 lakh acres over the next four years. It is noteworthy that Telangana boasts the highest oil recovery rate from the oil palm bunches produced among all states in India.

NSAP – Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme
Introduction
In an effort to uplift the lives of people living below the poverty line who face significant challenges due to disabilities, Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme provides social benefits to eligible individuals. The scheme is aimed at people with disabilities (PWDs) aged 18 to 79 who have 80% or greater impairment or multiple disabilities. This programme is part of the National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP).
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the scheme, individuals must meet the following criteria:
- Age: Applicants should be between 18 and 79 years old.
- Disability: They should have 80% or more disability or multiple disabilities.
- Socio-economic status: Applicants must belong to households classified as Below Poverty Line (BPL).
Government Funding
The Government of India entirely funds the scheme, with participants getting a monthly stipend of Rs. 300/-. In addition, the State Government contributes Rs. 200/- per month to each beneficiary under the Integrated National Disability Pension Scheme (IGNDP). This extra financial support is specifically directed towards individuals with disabilities who are classified as 80% or more disabled or having multiple disabilities.
The National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP)

Scientists embark on expedition onboard India’s research vessel Sagar Nidhi
Scientists from Bangladesh and Mauritius recently embarked onboard India’s research vessel Sagar Nidhi to participate in a joint ocean expedition. The event took place under the framework of Colombo Security Concave (CSC) between the nations of the Indian Ocean Region.
The first CSCO Oceanographers and Hydrographers conference, held in Goa and Hyderabad in November 2022, leads in a combined ocean expedition led by the Indian National Centres for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS), which is part of the ministry of earth sciences. During the joint ocean expedition, scientists will undertake research on ocean data to predict and manage changes in marine environment and variation in ocean parameters.
