Blue Dart Express signs UNFCCC Climate Neutral Now Pledge

Blue Dart has signed the ‘Climate Neutral Now’ (CNN) pledge by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

The Climate Neutral Now is an Initiative to encourage and support the interested stakeholders to act now in order to achieve a climate neutral world by 2050. Blue Dart, is a part of the Deutsche Post DHL (DPDHL) Group.

The Group has adopted a package of measures worth up to 7-billion Euros to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.

India & Israel adopt 'vision statement' to boost defence cooperation

To mark the diplomatic ties of 30 years, India and Israel has adopted a “vision statement” which will strengthen the defence cooperation in future.

During the bilateral meeting between the Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and his Israeli counterpart Benny Gantz, leaders discussed defence cooperation and the prevailing global and regional scenario. Benny Gantz has been honoured with a Tri-Service Guard of Honour in the presence of Rajnath Singh.

Gujarat government signed MoU with Isha Outreach to conserve soil

Climate Change Department of Gujarat has signed an MoU with Isha Outreach to join the worldwide ‘Save Soil’ initiative.

The MoU was signed between the Founder and Spiritual Leader of Isha Outreach, Sadhguru and Gujarat Chief Minister, Bhupendra Patel in Ahmedabad. Sadguru has set out on a 100-day motorcycle tour (30,000 Km) to raise awareness about the soil regeneration campaign throughout the world. World Soil Day: 5 December

Tamil Nadu Govt signed MoU with IPPB for pensioner’s digital life certificate

The Tamil Nadu government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) for obtaining life certificate from pensioners through doorstep services of the Postal Department. IPPB would transfer it to the doorstep services at a cost of Rs 70 per digital life certificate. Almost most than 7.15 lakh State government pensioners/ family pensioners submit their life certificate during July, August and September every year.

Key points:

Recently, the State government issued orders for five modes of annual mustering of pensioners during July to September this year, including the doorstep services of the IPPB, for obtaining digital life certificate through Jeevan Pramaan Portal to avoid hardship of coming in person for aged pensioners/family pensioners. As of now, mustering can be done by pensioners/family pensioners by exercising any one of three options—direct mustering (physical appearance); submission of life certificate through post; and digital life certificate (DLC) through Jeevan Pramaan Portal by using biometric device. Due to COVID-19 pandemic, exemption from annual mustering was granted during the last two years.

Following the Central government’s guideline advising against the usage of the word ‘Harijan’, the Delhi government is set to replace the word ‘Harijan’ from names of colonies & streets and name them after Babasaheb Ambedkar instead.

Social Welfare Minister Rajendra Pal Gautam has tabled a proposal to rename all streets & colonies under Delhi government titled as ‘Harijan’ after Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. This development comes after the Union government’s guidelines against the usage of the word ‘Harijan’. The social welfare minister chaired a meeting with officials from the concerned departments in order to expedite the process. The Delhi Government strives to uplift the SC, ST, and OBC communities living in the national capital.

ISRO chairman inaugurates new spacecraft manufacturing facility

Dr S Somanath, the chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), inaugurated ANANTH Technologies’ spacecraft manufacturing unit at Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) Aerospace Park.  Ananth Technologies Private Limited (ANANTH), the leading aerospace and defence manufacturer in India, launched its new spacecraft manufacturing facility in Bengaluru on Wednesday. This is the first spacecraft assembly, integration and testing facility in the private sector.

The state-of-the-art facility was inaugurated by S.Somanath, Chairman and Secretary, Department of Space at Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). Located at Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board Aerospace Park, Bengaluru, the new establishment is equipped with clean rooms for spacecraft sub-systems manufacturing and is large enough to cater to four spacecraft simultaneously.

This is a first of its kind facility in India, adding that since its establishment in 1992, Ananth Technologies has contributed to the manufacturing of 89 satellites and 69 launch vehicles built/launched by ISRO.

Key highlights:

The 15,000 sqm facility is capable of conducting the assembly, integration and testing of four large spacecraft at the same time, with four separate units present within the facility. Over the years, ANANTH Technologies has successfully contributed to major launches of ISRO. Our technology acumen is such that none of the sub-systems supplied by ANANTH Technologies has ever failed in orbit.

International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression

International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression is observed every year on 4 June to enlighten the public about the suffering of children across the world who are the victims of physical, mental and emotional abuse. The day marks the commitment of the United Nations to protect the rights of innocent children and safeguard them from such pain.

History

In 1982, the world got appalled by the news of a huge number of innocent Lebanese and Palestinian children becoming the victims of Israeli aggression during the Lebanese Civil War. Members of the UN General Assembly called for an emergency session to discuss the matter on 19 August. It decided to mark 4 June as the International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression under the ES-⅞ resolution. Since then, the world marks the day annually on 4 June.

Significance

Though the first-ever International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression was focused on victims of Lebanon war its scope was widened to “acknowledge the pain suffered by children throughout the world who are the victims of physical, mental and emotional abuse”

This day affirms United Nations’ commitment towards protecting children and their rights. United Nations General Assembly decided under the resolution ES-7/8 that June 4 would be observed each year.

Board of Appeal of Classification (BAC) has banned Para-athlete, Discus throw player, Vinod Kumar  for two years (Until 2023) for ‘intentional misrepresentation’. He won the bronze medal in the discus throw event (F52 category) at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics.

At the Tokyo games, he gave a best throw of 19.91m to finish third behind Piotr Kosewicz (20.02m) of Poland and Velimir Sandor (19.98m) of Croatia.

India, Senegal sign MoUs for cultural exchange, cooperation in youth matter

India has signed three MoUs with and Senegal, after talks between VP, M Venkaiah Naidu and President of Senegal, Macky Sall.

The first MoU is related to renewal of Cultural Exchange Progarmme (CEP) for the period 2022-26. Second MoU is related to visa-free regime Official which will strengthen the cooperation between the two countries.
