Q. Name the Governor-General who was responsible for the annexation of Sindh.

(a) Lord Hastings

(b) Lord William Bentinck

(c) Lord Ellen borough

(d) Lord Dalhousie

Ans: (c) Lord Ellen borough

Explanation: Sindh was ruled by Baluchi chiefs collectively known as Amirs of Sind (Amirs of Khairpur, Hyderabad, and Mirpur). East India Company, because of the strategic positions of the Ports of Sind had tried its hand as early as 1775 to open a factory out there; but they abandoned it in 1792. 1809, during the times of Lord Minto, an embassy was sent to these Amirs which resulted in the “Treaty of Eternal Friendship”. During Governor-General of India Lord Ellenborough, a troop was sent under Sir Charles Napier with full civil and military power to Sindh in September 1842, to take control of all British Indian troops there.
