Her contributions to literature were widely recognized, as she was bestowed with several prestigious awards. In 1976, the Government of India honored her with the Jnanpith Award and Padma Shri. Additionally, she received honorary D.Litt. degrees from Jabalpur University, Rabindra Bharati University, Burdwan University, and Jadavpur University.
