There are a certain number of voters in a village and three contestants namely A, B and C contested in a election, A got 40% of the votes, B got x% of the votes and C got (x + 10)% of the votes. The ratio of the votes got by A to B is 8:5 and the number of votes obtained by C is 1050. Find the total number of voters in the village.

a) 2000

b) 3000

c) 2400

d) 4000

e) None of these

Sol:

Let the total number of votes be y

Votes got by A = y * 40/100 = 2y/5

Votes got by B = y * x/100

Votes got by C = y * (x + 10)/100

(2y/5)/(xy/100) = 8/5

2y/5 * 100/xy = 8/5

x = 25%

Percentage of votes got by C = 25 + 10 =35%

Number of votes got by C = 1050

Total number of voters in the village = 1050 *

100/35 = 3000
