The ratio of the number of sweets in three boxes is 3:5:6. If 12 sweets are added to each box, then the new ratio of the sweets in these boxes becomes 19:29:34 respectively. What was the total number of sweets in three boxes initially?

A. 180

B. 210

C. 250

D. 190

E. None of these

Sol:

The number of sweets in three boxes be 3x, 5x

and 6x respectively.

(3x+12 )/( 5x+12) = 19/29

29(3x+12) = 19 (5x+12)

87x+348 = 95x+228

348-228 = 95x-87x

120 = 8x

x=15

Total sweets in three boxes initially = 3x+5x+6x=

14x = 14*15 = 210
