Prime Minister Narendra Modi has greeted the people on the special occasion of Ashadhi Bij, the Kutchi New Year. The Kutchi new year is celebrated on Ashadhi Bij, which also marks the onset of rains.

Ashadhi Beej

Ashadhi Beej is an auspicious day for farming communities in North India especially Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and some other places. In 2020, Ashadhi Beej date is June 23.

Ashadhi Beej falls on the second day in bright half of Ashadhi Month (Ashadhi Sud Beej).

This is a small festival mainly celebrated to predict the monsoon.

During Ashadhi Beej the formers, Jyotish and agricultural experts check the moisture in the atmosphere to help predict which crop would be the best one in coming monsoon.

Kutchi community

The Kutchi people traditionally hail from the Kutch district of the western Indian state of Gujarat.

There are many castes in a typical Kutchi community, such as Rahima (Arbab), Nohriya, Gharana, Lohar Wadha, Hingora, Halaypotra, Sanghar, Jat, Jadeja, Leva Patidars/Patels, Rathor, Khatri etc.

Kutchi is mainly adheres to the religions of Barmati-Panth of Dhani Matang Dev, Hinduism, Jainism, Kapadi and Islam.

The Kutchi language is a member of the Pali-Prakrit language family. Among the immigrant Kutchi people living outside India, major populations can be found in countries like Pakistan, South Africa, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Fiji, Canada, United States, Oman and UK.
