Cyclone Fani dealt a big blow to honeybees in coastal Odisha

Cyclone Fani caused substantial damage to honeybees living in the natural environment homes in the coastal areas of Odisha. 
The loss of pollinators to affect the production of fruits and vegetables in the storm-hit areas.
The particularly grim in Puri and Khurda districts are badly affected. 
The other districts where honeybees severely hit include Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, and Kendrapara.
Around thousands of bee colonies on trees and buildings are believed to have been damaged by wind with speeds of up to 200-220 kmph.
The period from January to May is the peak time for honey production.
This phase will continue till the rainy season gets over.
There is no concrete data available about the number of bee colonies at farms and homes
The information collected from farmers in rural areas indicated that around 5,000 colonies suffered with the hives getting damaged.
