Inger Andersen of
Denmark is appointed
as the new Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme
(UNEP).She was
nominated to the post by UN Secretary-General António Guterres. The nomination was approved by
acclamation by the UN General Assembly on 20 February. She will serve for a period of four
years.
Ms.Inger
Andersen:
Ms Andersen ia a former Director General of the
IUCN with over
thirty years of experience in the field of international development. She has
held various leadership positions at the World Bank (with almost 15 years of
experience) and United Nations. She was the Vice President of the Middle East
and North Africa Region at the World Bank from 2011 to 2015 and Vice President
for Sustainable Development and Head of the Consultative Group of International
Agricultural Research Fund Council from 2010 to 2011.
