Three of the autonomous institutions of the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India have found their place among top 30 Indian Institutions including universities, IITs, IISERs, and Research Institutions and Labs as per Nature Index 2020 ratings based on the research published in the top journals, a measure of research quality.
The three institutions that are placed among the top 30 ranks in the list are:
- IACS (Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science), Kolkata – 7th position,
- JNCASR (Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research), Bangalore – 14th position
- Kolkata’s S.N.Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences – 30th position
The country or institution is ranked based on its share of articles published in the 82 scientific journals selected by an independent panel of experts and tracked by the Nature Index database.
Other Indian institutions that are on the list are:
- Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) at 160th position.
- Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore at 184th position.
