N Venudhar Reddy took charge as Director General of All India Radio

IIS Officer of 1988 batch N Venudhar Reddy took charge as Director General of All India Radio.

Currently Working as Principal DG of News Services Division, All India Radio, he was given additional charge of AIR, upon the approval of the Appointments Committee of the cabinet.

Reddy brings with him vast experience in media planning and management, administration and newsgathering.

He has also served in various capacities earlier with All India Radio News and Doordarshan News.

Bengal assembly passed resolution to create legislative council

Bengal assembly passed resolution to create legislative council

Government of West Bengal passed a resolution in the state assembly in favour of creating a legislative council in the state under Article 169 of the Constitution.

The resolution was passed with 196 votes in favour and 69 against it. The West Bengal Legislative Assembly has a strength of 294 members but only 265 were present during the voting.

Senior TMC leader and state minister Partha Chatterjee tabled the resolution in the Assembly.

As per law, West Bengal can have a maximum of 94 members in the legislative council (one-third of total assembly seats), in case the resolution gets support of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.

Facebook launched its new newsletter platform, Bulletin. The new site will be a place for writers and podcasters to publish content and build a subscriber base.

As this new platform is in development, Facebook is testing tools and features with a small number of selected writers, but shares an overview of what’s to come.

With Bulletin, creators will own the rights to their content and subscribers list — although, the platform will still be dependent on Facebook’s infrastructure.

For example, readers don’t have to have a Facebook account to access free content, but will need to use Facebook Pay for any transactions.

Razorpay partnered with Mastercard to launch ‘MandateHQ’ for recurring payments

Payments solution provider Razorpay has partnered with Mastercard to launch ‘MandateHQ’ – a payment interface that will help card-issuing banks to enable recurring payments for its customers.

Razorpay, which is backed by Sequoia Capital, GIC, and others, aims to integrate MandateHQ with more than 50 banks in the next 12 months.

This directive is applicable to all recurring payments which were earlier debited automatically from customers’ cards (credit/debit/prepaid) for mobile, utility, other recurring bills as well as subscription payments like OTT streaming services.

Razorpay’s Mandate HQ is an API-based plug-n-play solution that reduces the go-live time for any card issuing bank that wishes to enable recurring payments for its customers.

MandateHQ will also enable businesses, especially subscription-based businesses, to get access to a wider customer base, who use debit cards, as recurring payments were mostly supported via credit cards previously.

Bajaj Allianz General Insurance has entered into a corporate agency agreement with Bank of India through its network of branches and some other facilities across the country, will distribute the general insurer’s products.

A bouquet of personal lines of products such as motor, health, home and travel insurance as well as commercial line of products, including engineering and marine insurance, are to be offered to customers of the bank as part of the agreement.

The aim is to provide Bank of India’s customers various insurance solutions and enhanced customer experience by leveraging technology, the private insurer said.

Bank of India will be distributing the insurance products through its network of 5,084 branches, 80 retail business centres and 60 SME city centres across the country.

Congress leader Virbhadra Singh passed away

Congress leader Virbhadra Singh passed away

Former Himachal Pradesh chief minister and veteran Congress leader Virbhadra Singh passed away at the age of 87 years.

Mr. Singh was a nine-time MLA was elected to the State Legislative Assembly first time in October 1983.

He remained Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh from April 8, 1983 to March 5, 1990; December 3, 1993 to March 23, 1998; from March 6, 2003 to December 29, 2007; and from December 25, 2012 to December 26, 2017.

He was at present MLA from the Arki Assembly constituency in Solan district. Mr. Singh was first elected to the Lok Sabha in 1962 and in all, he was a five-time MP.

He served as Minister of State for Industries in 1982-1983; Union Minister of Steel from 2009-2011; and Union Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises from 2011-2012.

He was also the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee president in 1977, 1979, 1980 and 2012.

DMRC launched India's first UPI-based cashless parking

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) launched India’s first FASTag or Unified Payments Interface (UPI)-based parking facility to reduce the time for entry and payment.

The facility was launched at Kashmere Gate metro station. The parking facility was launched by Dr Mangu Singh, Managing Director of DMRC.

As part of the Multi-Model Integration (MMI) initiative, dedicated Intermediate Public Transport (IPT) lanes for autos, taxis and r-Rickshaws were also inaugurated at the station.

The facility can accommodate 55 four-wheelers and 174 two-wheelers. The entry and exit and payment of 4-wheelers can be done through the FASTag.

The parking fee will be deducted through FASTag, which will reduce the time for entry and payment. Only the vehicles with FASTag will be allowed to park in this facility.

Neha Parikh has been appointed as the new CEO of Waze, a crowd-sourced navigation app and a subsidiary of tech giant Google.

Neha, 41, a board member of the online used car retailer Carvana, replaced Noam Bardin, who stepped down in November as the CEO after leading the Israeli company for 12 years.

Parikh, who joined Waze as the CEO late June, is a veteran of online hospitality brand Expedia, and has served in a variety of positions at two of the corporation’s subsidiaries: Hotels.com and as Hotwire’s youngest and first female president.

Waze currently has over 140 million active monthly users in more than 185 countries who drive more than 40 billion kilometers every month.

China has launched Fengyun-3E satellite

China has launched Fengyun-3E satellite

China has recently launched Fengyun-3E satellite, a new Chinese weather satellite that flew into an early morning polar orbit to feed data into global computer models.

The three-stage Long March 4C rocket lifted off from the Jiuquan spaceport in the Inner Mongolia region of northwestern China.

The liquid-fueled launcher flew south from Jiuquan before releasing the Fengyun 3E weather satellite into a polar orbit about 500 miles (800 kilometers) above Earth.

China launched the roughly 2.5-ton Fengyun 3E satellite into an orbit that flies along the terminator, or the line between the day and night sides of Earth.

Fengyun 3E crosses the equator in the early morning, local time, making it the first civilian weather satellite to launch directly into an early morning orbital plane.

The Union Cabinet recently has approved the Memorandum on Cooperation (MoC) between Competition Commission of India (CCI) and Japan Fair Trade Commission (JFTC) to promote and strengthen cooperation in the matter of Competition Law and Policy.

The approved MoC, through exchange of information, will enable CCI to emulate and learn from the experiences and lessons of its counterpart competition agency in Japan which would enhance efficiency.

The same will help improve enforcement of the Competition Act, 2002 by CCI. The resultant outcomes will benefit consumers at large and will promote equity and inclusiveness.

It will envisage to promote and strengthen cooperation in the matter of Competition Law and policy through exchange of information as well as through various capacity building initiatives in the areas of technical cooperation, experience sharing and enforcement cooperation.

This will provide mutual advanced entry to the Members of both the Institutes through exemptions from appearing in majority of papers to acquire the qualification of the other Professional Body and to undertake joint research, continuing professional development activities.

This MoU will lead to a focus attention towards exchange of knowledge and exchange of research and publications which will strengthen good governance practice in both jurisdictions.

Both parties will initiate joint research relevant to Cost Accountancy profession which could involve collaborative research in technical areas.

This MoU will facilitate the movement of professionals in both jurisdictions and will enhance the employability of Cost Accountants in India and abroad.

During 2020-2021, fresh cut flowers jasmine flowers and bouquets (comprising of jasmine and other traditional flowers) valued at Rs 66.28 crores were exported to countries like USA, UAE, Singapore, etc.

Out of which, value of Rs.11.84 crores were exported from Tamil Nadu region through major airports of Chennai, Coimbatore and Madurai.
