Govt to conduct National Achievement Survey (NAS)

Govt to conduct the National Achievement Survey (NAS) on Friday (12th November) across the country.

Union Govt has been implementing the rolling programme of sample-based NAS aimed at Classes III, V, VIII, and X with a cycle period of 3 years. The last National Achievement Survey (NAS) was held on 13 November 2017 for assessing the competencies developed by the children at the grade levels 3, 5, and 8.

Aim: To assess the learning interruptions and new learnings during the COVID pandemic and help to take remedial measures.

Rohit Sharma to captain India's T-20 International team for upcoming series

India’s vice-captain, Rohit Sharma has been officially announced as Team India’s T20 International captain, replacing Virat Kohli, the cricket board said after the side were dumped out of the World Cup.

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the decision, while also naming India’s 16-man squad for the upcoming home series against New Zealand. Sharma’s first assignment will be the upcoming series against New Zealand where the Black Caps will play three T20 internationals against the Men in Blue.

Morinari Watanabe re-elected as President of FIG

Morinari Watanabe was re-elected as the President of the International Gymnastics Federation or Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG) for a period of three years. Morinari Watanabe defeated Azerbaijan’s contender Farid Gayibov, in the FIG President election that was held during a conference in Turkey. Earlier, He was elected as the President of FIG in 2016 for a 4-year term beginning January 2017.

Japanese official Watanabe was challenged for the Presidency by Farid Gayibov of Azerbaijan. His term was then extended by one year. He will now continue to hold the position till 2024.

DARPG organizes regional conference on Public Administration

Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) in collaboration with the Govt of Uttar Pradesh is organizing a Regional Conference on the theme ‘Strengthening the State Institutes of Public Administration’ in a semi-virtual mode. It will be held 11-12 November 2021 at Lucknow.

Aim: to bring national and state-level training institutes on the same platform to share emerging requirements in governance for future public solutions for improving quality of life.

National Internet Exchange of India launches ‘Digital Payment Gateway’

The National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) has gone digital by launching a ‘digital payment gateway’. NIXI is a non-profit firm under the aegis of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). It has launched the digital payment gateway across its three business units by integrating the payment gateways on all its customer-facing websites for ease of use.

It will lead to increased ease of use for NIXI’s customers by offering real-time payments, providing uninterrupted services, and ensuring a seamless experience to all stakeholders. NIXI has partnered with PayU and NSDL to offer Payment gateway services.

India ranked 10th in Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI) 2022

India has been placed at 10th spot in the global Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI) 2022 released by Germanwatch on the side-lines of the COP26. It is being released by German-watch along with Climate Action Network (CAN) and New Climate Institute.

India was at 10th place in 2020 as well. Scandinavian countries (Denmark (4th), Sweden (5th), and Norway (6th)), together with UK and Morocco, lead the ‘race to zero’.

Worst performers: Australia, South Korea, Russia, Saudi Arabia, and Kazakhstan.

Nykaa CEO Falguni Nayar becomes India’s richest self-made woman

Beauty startup Nykaa’s founder Falguni Nayar has become India’s wealthiest self-made female billionaire, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, as shares made a strong stock market debut. She founded Nykaa in the year 2012.

She holds a 53.5% stake in Nykaa and has a net worth of USD 7.48 billion. This comes after the IPO of FSN E-Commerce Ventures which is Nykaa’s parent entity. This is also the first woman-led unicorn to list on the stock exchange. The issue size of the IPO of FSN E-Commerce Ventures (Nykaa) was Rs 5,351.92 crore with face value of Rs 1 per share.

Rajeev Srivastava appointed as CEO of Standard Chartered Securities

Rajeev Srivastava has been appointed as the chief executive officer (CEO) at Standard Chartered Securities for India operations. His appointment is subject to regulatory approvals.

Rajeev Srivastava has served at HDFC Securities where headed the products and business development functions of the organization.

India’s first National Yogasana Sports Championships organized in Bhubaneswar

Odisha which has rightly earned accolades for encouraging and supporting various sports in India is hosting the first-ever Physical National Yogasana Sports Championships in Bhubaneswar.

Organized by the National Yogasana Sports Federation (NYSF) in association with the Government of Odisha from 11th to 13th November 2021, the competition is a stepping stone in the direction of making Yogasana a part of the prestigious Olympics platform.

The National Yogasana Sports Championships 2021-22 has been organized by the National Yogasana Sports Federation (NYSF) in association with the Odisha state. Around 560 young Yogasana Sports athletes from across 30 states would be taking part in the event. The event aims to promote yoga and create a global brand around it, portraying it as a competitive sport with high standards and benchmarks.

West Indies star all-rounder Dwayne Bravo confirmed that he will retire from international cricket after the conclusion of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup campaign. The 38-year-old has earlier announced his plan to retire from international cricket after the conclusion of the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup campaign. He played his last T20I match against Australia.

Bravo has played 91 T20s for the West Indies after making his debut against New Zealand at Auckland in 2006.

He also picked up 78 wickets with his medium-fast bowling and was effective with his variations in the death overs. Bravo was part of the West Indies teams that won the T20 World Cup in 2012 and 2016. Dwayne Bravo is the highest wicket-taker for the West Indies in T20Is.

World Pneumonia Day: 12 November

World Pneumonia Day is observed every year on November 12 to raise awareness, promote prevention and treatment and produce action to combat the disease.
Pneumonia an acute respiratory infection commonly caused by virus or bacteria is the single biggest infectious killer of adults and children claiming the lives of 2.5 million, including 6,72,000 children in 2019. The surge in Covid pneumonia cases in recent times is expected to add significantly to the total number of deaths due to pneumonia.

World Pneumonia Day 2020 is an annual event that was first celebrated in the year 2009.

Public Service Broadcasting Day: 12 November

Public Service Broadcasting Day is celebrated every year on November 12 as the remembrance of the first and only visit of Mahatma Gandhi to the studio of All India Radio, Delhi in 1947. Mahatma Gandhi addressed the displaced people (refugee from Pakistan), who had temporarily settled at Kurukshetra in Haryana after partition. Every year, a special event is organized to observe the Public Service Broadcasting Day in the premises of All India Radio, New Delhi.

Nobel Laureate and former South African President FW de Klerk passes away at 85

FW de Klerk, the former president of South Africa and the last white person to lead the countryhas passed away due to cancer. The 85-year-old had been diagnosed with cancer earlier this year.

He came to power in 1989 under apartheid, a system of legalized racism, but later became a key figure in the transition to democracy. In 1993, De Klerk and Nelson Mandela jointly received the Nobel Peace Prize for their work towards ending apartheid.
