National Immunization Day for the year 2020 was observed across India on 19 January. Every year, India observes National Immunisation Day to mark the launch of pulse polio programme. India has been implementing the Pulse Polio Programme since 1995. In India, the last case of wild polio was reported on 13 January 2011.

Under this programme, approximately 17.4 crore children of less than five years of age across the country will be administered polio drops as a part of the immunization drive of the Central Government to sustain polio eradication from the country. India was removed from the list of polio endemic countries in 2012 and in 2013 the entire Southeast Asia Region was declared Polio free.
