Nation observes 4th Jan Aushadhi Diwas on March 07, 2022
Pharmaceuticals & Medical Devices Bureau of India (PMBI), under the aegis of Department of Pharmaceuticals is going to celebrate their 4th Jan Aushadhi Diwas by organizing weeklong celebrations at different locations across the country covering all States/UTs. This will generate awareness about the usages of generic medicines and benefits of Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana.
The theme of Janaushadhi Diwas 2022 is “Jan Aushadhi-Jan Upyogi”.
The entire week from March 01-07 was observed as ‘Janaushadhi Week’ across the nation. The celebrations are organised since 2019 by the Pharmaceuticals & Medical Devices Bureau of India (PMBI), under the aegis of Department of Pharmaceuticals.
5th UN Environment Assembly concludes in Nairobi with 14 resolutions
The 5th United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-5) was held on a hybrid format in Nairobi from 28 February to 02 March 2022.
The overall theme for UNEA-5 was “Strengthening Actions for Nature to Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals,” highlighting the pivotal role nature plays in our lives and in social, economic and environmental sustainable development.
The assembly concluded with 14 resolutions to strengthen international action for climate, nature and a pollution-free planet to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. The United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA) brings together representatives of the 193 Member States of the UN, businesses, civil society and other stakeholders to agree on policies to address the world’s most pressing environmental challenges.
Iran successfully launches second military satellite Noor-2 into orbit
The Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) successfully launched a military satellite, Noor-2, the satellite, which was manufactured by the Aerospace Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) and launched on the indigenous three-stage, mixed-fuel Qased (Messenger) carrier, is orbiting at an altitude of 500 kilometers from earth, on March 08, 2022.
This is the second military satellite launched by Islamic Republic. The first military satellite, Noor, was launched in April 2020 at an orbit of 425km (265 miles) above the earth’s surface.
Russia surpasses Iran to become world’s most sanctioned country
Russia has become the most sanctioned country in the world, due to its invasion on Ukraine, according to a New York-based sanctions watchlist site Castellum.AI. Russia faced 2,778 new sanctions since February 22, 2022, led by the US and European nations, bringing the total sanctions to 5,530
Russia faced 2,754 sanctions before Feb. 22, making it the second-most sanctioned country in the world behind Iran. However, since President Vladimir Putin ordered troops into eastern Ukraine on Feb. 21, sanctions against Russia have skyrocketed to 5,532. Before this, Iran was the most sanctioned country, facing 3,616 sanctions against it over the last decade.
9th India-Sri Lanka Bilateral Maritime Exercise SLINEX to be held at Visakhapatnam
The Ninth Edition of India – Sri Lanka Bilateral Maritime Exercise SLINEX (Sri Lanka–India Naval Exercise) is scheduled at Visakhapatnam from 07 Mar to 10 Mar 2022. The exercise is being conducted in two phases; the Harbour Phase at Visakhapatnam on 07-08 Mar 22 followed by the Sea Phase on 09-10 Mar 22 in the Bay of Bengal. Indian Navy will be represented by INS Kirch, a guided missile corvette while Sri Lanka Navy will be represented by SLNS Sayurala, an advanced offshore patrol vessel.

Ministry of Culture organise PAN-India programme “Jharokha – Compendium of Indian handicraft/ handloom, art and culture”
As part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Textiles are organizing “Jharokha-Compendium of Indian handicraft/ handloom, art and culture”. Jharokha is a PAN India progarmme which will be held at 16 locations in 13 states and UTs, as part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav .
To begin with, the first event under this celebration has been organized in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh at Rani Kamlapati Railway Station, on March 08, 2022, which also marks International Women’s Day.
President Ram Nath Kovind Presents ‘Nari Shakti Puraskar’ for 2020 and 2021 to 29 Women
President Ram Nath Kovind conferred the Nari Shakti Puraskar 2020 and 2021 at a special ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi on occasion of International Women’s Day. The award was conferred on 29 outstanding and exceptional women achievers in recognition of their exceptional work towards empowerment of women, especially the vulnerable and marginalised. There were total 28 awards which included 14 awards each for the Year 2020 and 2021.
C-DAC Commissions “PARAM Ganga” Supercomputer at IIT Roorkee under National Supercomputing Mission
The Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) has designed and commissioned a supercomputer named “PARAM Ganga”, at IIT Roorkee on March 07, 2022, under Phase II of National Supercomputing Mission (NSM).
PARAM Ganga has a supercomputing capacity of 1.66 Petaflops.
RBI launches “BE(A)WARE” – A Booklet on Modus Operandi of Financial Frauds
The Reserve Bank has released a booklet, “BE(A)WARE” on the common modus operandi used by fraudsters and precautions to be taken while carrying out various financial transactions.
The booklet aims to enhance public awareness about various types of financial frauds perpetrated on gullible customers while carrying out digital payments and other financial transactions.

RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das has launched UPI for feature phones called UPI123Pay. He also launched 24×7 helpline for digital payments – DigiSaathi. UPI on feature phones will help people in rural areas who cannot afford a smartphone.
UPI123pay presently offers four mediums/options to the users of feature phones to make UPI payments.
Users can access DigiSaathi via any of the following mode:

- a short code (14431),
- website – http://www.digisaathi.info, and chatbots.

International Women’s Day 2022: 08 March
International Women’s Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the historical, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also observed in support of taking action against gender inequality around the world. We all know the world couldn’t run without women (we mean, just listen to Beyoncé).
The theme of 2022 International Women’s Day is Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow.
The International Women’s Day was observed for the first time in 1911. IWD was officially adopted by the United Nations in 1977.
Former Australian wicketkeeper Rod Marsh passes away at 74
The cricket world lost a legend as former Australia wicketkeeper Rod Marsh passed away. He was 74. Marsh had suffered a massive heart attack in Queensland last week and was in an induced coma at the Royal Adelaide Hospital until his death.
Marsh played 96 test matches and 92 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) for Australia. He was inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame in 2009.
