National Vaccination Day is observed annually on 16 march in India. The occasion is celebrated to raise awareness about importance of vaccination. Multiple events are organised on this day across the nation to spread awareness about significance of vaccines among citizens.
The day was first observed in the year 1995. It was on March 16, 1995 that India started Pulse Polio Programme and the first dose of Oral Polio Vaccine was given. In 2022, the National Immunization Day is important since the Government of India has started the COVID-19 vaccination for children between 15 to 18 years of age and booster dose for senior citizens.
