Veteran Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone has been named as one of the awardees of the TIME100 Impact Awards 2022. The actress has got featured on the inaugural TIME100 Impact Awards list for her work in the mental health struggles and raise awareness, through her LiveLoveLaugh Foundation. Deepika got featured on the list for her work in the mental health space.

The actress opted for a gorgeous embellished saree and kept her makeup on point for the TIME100 Impact Awards event.  The award recognizes global leaders who have gone above and beyond to move their industries and the world forward. Apart from Deepika, six other global leaders have also been honored with the award.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Pramod Sawant on March 28, 2022  took oath as the Chief Minister of Goa for the second consecutive term. Governor PS Sreedharan Pillai administered him the oath of office and secrecy at an event organised at Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee Stadium, Panaji.

Pramod Sawant led the BJP in the recently concluded 2022 Goa Assembly elections and won 20 seats in the 40-member Goa Assembly. Mr Sawant was administered the oath by Governor PS Sreedharan Pillai at the Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee stadium near Panaji.

The eminent hydrologist Wilfried Brutsaert has been awarded with the Stockholm Water Prize 2022.

He received this prestigious award for his groundbreaking work to quantify environmental evaporation, helping to make accurate predictions of the impact that climate change has on local rainfall patterns and water sources.

He is also known as ‘Mr Evaporation’.

India’s first ‘steel road’ built in Diamond City of India ‘Surat’

India’s first-of-its kind road made out of steel waste has come up in Surat city of Gujarat at the Hazira Industrial Area.

The road has been built by Arcelor Mittal Nippon Steel India in collaboration with CSIR India (Council of Scientific and Industrial Research), CRRI (Central Road Research Institute) and NITI Aayog. The project also uses the Waste to Wealth and Clean India campaigns of the Indian government. The new experimental road project is 6-lane and 1-kilometre in length. It consists of 100 percent processed steel slag.

DRDO successfully test-flights Indian Army version of Medium Range Surface to Air Missile (MRSAM) off Odisha coast

Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) conducted two successful flight tests of the Indian Army version of Medium Range Surface to Air Missile (MRSAM) at Integrated Test Range, Chandipur off the coast of Odisha on March 27, 2022. The flight tests were carried out as part of the live firing trials against high-speed aerial targets. The missiles intercepted the aerial targets and destroyed them completely, registering direct hits at both the ranges.

The first test launch was to intercept a medium altitude long range target and second launch was for low altitude short range target. The Indian Army version of MRSAM is a Surface-to-Air Missile. It has been developed jointly by DRDO and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), Israel.

Bharatiya Reserve Bank Note Mudran Private Limited (BRBNMPL) has set up Varnika with an annual ink manufacturing capacity of 1,500 MT to enhance the security of banknotes. It is a boost to ‘Make in India’ initiative. It ensures that the entire requirement of banknote printing inks is produced in-house. Bharatiya Reserve Bank Note Mudran Private Limited (BRBNMPL) a wholly owned subsidiary of RBI. Shri Shaktikanta Das (Governor of RBI) has dedicated “Varnika”, the Ink Manufacturing Unit of Bharatiya Reserve Bank Note Mudran Private Limited (BRBNMPL) to the nation in Mysuru.

It is a boost to ‘Make in India’ initiative. It ensures that the entire requirement of banknote printing inks is produced in-house. This unit also manufactures Colour Shift Intaglio Ink (CSII) and meets the entire requirements of banknote printing presses in India, which has resulted in cost efficiency and self-sufficiency in banknote ink production.

US and Philippines military begins their largest combat drills ‘Balikatan 2022’

The United States military and the military of Philippines kicked off the military drill ‘Balikatan 2022’ on March 28, 2022.

The Philippine-led annual exercise will take place across Luzon in Philippines region near Taiwan,from March 28 to April 8, 2022. The annual “Balikatan” (shoulder-to-shoulder) exercises involve 8,900 troops this year and will include live fire exercises and training with amphibious assault vehicles.

Indian Railways’ men Hockey team won the Obaidullah Khan Heritage Hockey Cup held at Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.

CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan inaugurated the tournament at Major Dhyanchand Stadium, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. Arjun, player of Railway’s was adjudged Man of the Tournament. Obaidullah Gold Cup was started in year 1931. It was last played in year 2016. Last time, in the year 2016, the tournament was won by BPCL and Railways team was runners up.

Tejas aims at creating a 10,000 strong Indian workforce in UAE during the initial phase.

Kerala: Identification of New Marine Species

A new Carangid species has been identified by the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) from the Indian coast of Kerala.

Overview:

This newly identified fish belongs to the group named ‘queen fish’. The scientific name of this fish is Scomberoides pelagicus. In the local language this fish is called ‘pola vatta’.

In the Indian ocean there are more than sixty species of carangids. Out of them, four belong to the ‘Queen Fish’ group and the newly identified fish is number five. Across the globe, three queen fishes are extinct due to a lot of reasons like climate change, overfishing, etc. The newly identified species is found in the coastal region of the country along with Kerala. This fish also fetch a good demand in the local markets.

Description the fish

It has been confirmed by CMFRI that the newly identified fish is a new species. This has been confirmed after detailed genetic and taxonomic analyses were performed on the fish. The newly identified fish is distinct as it has a deep ovate body, its head profile is concave dorsal shaped, and has stout. It also has fewer numbers of gill rakers on its first gill arch as compared to its other closely related species.
