A, B and C entered into a partnership with an investment of Rs.5000, Rs.4000 and Rs.6000 and invested for x, y and 10 months

A, B and C entered into a partnership with an investment of Rs.5000, Rs.4000 and Rs.6000 and invested for x, y and 10 months respectively. The total profit obtained by them is Rs.7000 and the profit obtained by A and B is Rs.3000 and Rs.2000 respectively. Find the ratio of x to y.

a) 1:1

b) 8:5

c) 4:3

d) 6:5

e) None of these

Sol:

Profit ratio of A, B and C = 5000 * x : 4000 * y :

6000 * 10 = 5000x : 4000y : 60000

Profit obtained by A = Rs.3000

Profit obtained by B = Rs.2000

(5000 * x)/(5000x + 4000y + 60000) = 3000/7000

(5000x)/(5000x + 4000y + 60000) = 3/7

5000x * 7/3 = 5000x + 4000y + 60000 —- (1)

(4000 * y)/(5000x + 4000y + 60000) = 2000/7000

(4000y)/(5000x + 4000y + 60000) = 2/7

4000y * 7/2 = 5000x + 4000y + 60000 —- (2)

From (1) and (2),

5000x * 7/3 = 4000y * 7/2

x/y = 6/5
