A bowl contains a mixture of oil and water in the ratio of 8: 5. When 78 ml of mixture is taken out and 44 ml of water is added, the ratio of oil and water becomes 1: 2. How much quantity of oil paste does the bowl have initially?

a)            80 ml

b)            100 ml

c)            60 ml

d)            110 ml

Sol:

Let initially the mixture has 8x ml of oil and 5x ml of water paste.

Oil in the bowl = 78 *(8/13) = 48 ml

Water in the bowl = 78 * (5/13) = 30 ml

[8x – 48] / [5x – 30 + 44] = ½

=> 16x – 96 = 5x + 14

=> 11x = 110

=> x = 10

Oil paste initially in the bowl = 8 * 10 = 80 ml
