A vessel contains a mixture of milk and water and the quantity of milk is three times more than that of water

A vessel contains a mixture of milk and water and the quantity of milk is three times more than that of water. If 25 liters of the mixture is taken out and 15 liters of water is added to the mixture, then the ratio of milk to water becomes 2:1. Find the quantity of the mixture in the vessel initially?

A.            200 liters

B.            100 liters

C.            250 liters

D.            300 liters

E.            None of these

Sol:

Let the quantity of water in the vessel initially = x

And the quantity of milk in the vessel initially = 4x

And the quantity of the mixture in the vessel = 4x

+ x = 5x

(4x – 25 * 4x/5x)/(1x – 25 * 1x/5x + 15) = 2/1

(4x – 20) * 1 = (1x – 5 + 15) * 2

4x – 20 = 2x + 10 * 2

4x – 2x = 20 + 20

x = 40/2

x = 20

The quantity of the mixture in the vessel initially =

5 * 20 = 100 liters
