History: | Kasauli is one of the ancient hill stations in India which was established by British during their regime. Its history is much older as it is a firm belief of locals that Lord Hanuman put his feet at this hillock during the uplifting of Sanjeevani Mountain in Ramayana. To symbolize this mythological event, an ancient temple of Hanuman is built on the hillock of Kasauli. It is situated at the height of 300 meter from Kasauli which is also called as Monkey Point. . Later this area was discovered as cantonment area by British Raj during 1842. They also established colonial area to develop this place as tourist destination. This was the perfect hide out for them during blistering hot season in India. To increase the importance of town, Central Research Center and Kasauli Club were established in 1905 and 1880 respectively. |
Geography: | In 1850, the Kasauli Cantonment was settled in, built as a Colonial hill station under the British Raj, located 77 km from Shimla, 65 km from Chandigarh, and 94 km from Ambala Cantt(Haryana).The town is a health resort situated at an elevation of 1,900 metres above sea level. The Kasauli cantonment covers an area of 688.0626 acres of which the civil area is 43.5607 acres. The legend of the town states that it came into existence after Lord Hanuman placed his feet here in order to advance on to the Sanjeevani hill. The place where the lord actually kept his feet is believed to be at a hillock which is 300 m high. Historically, Kasauli is one of those hill stations that was developed by the British Empire during its peak period in India. Kasauli is a beautiful place with dense forest area with different varieties of trees, such as pines, deodars, horse chestnuts, and wild cherries. Kasauli has a mild climate.
