About:Tirupati District was formed from parts of the erstwhile Chittoor District and a portion of the erstwhile SPSR Nellore District on April 4, 2022, during the reorganization of districts in Andhra Pradesh. It is renowned for its rich religious and cultural heritage, being home to the famous Tirumala Venkateswara Temple, a significant Hindu pilgrimage site, along with several other historic temples. This temple is one of the eight Svayam Vyakta Kshetras (self-manifested temples) dedicated to the deity Vishnu. Tirupati is located 150 km from Chennai, 250 km from Bangalore, and 406 km from Amaravati.
Tirupati is the second largest city in the Rayalaseema region, after Kurnool. As per the 2011 census of India, Tirupati had a population of 287,035, making it the ninth most populous city in Andhra Pradesh. The larger urban agglomeration had a population of 459,985, ranking it as the seventh largest in the state. The city operates as a municipal corporation and serves as the headquarters for the Tirupati district, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams, Tirupati Urban, Tirupati Rural mandals, the Tirupati revenue division, the Andhra Pradesh Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (APSPDCL), and the Tirupati Urban Development Authority (TUDA). In 2012–2013, Tirupati was recognized by India’s Ministry of Tourism as the “Best Heritage City.” Furthermore, it was chosen as one of the hundred Indian cities to be developed under the Smart Cities Mission, a Government of India initiative focused on urban development and modernization.
History:Tirupati District formed from a part of erstwhile Chittoor District and a part from earst while SPSR Nellore District on 4th April, 2022, when the Districts re-organized in Andhra Pradesh State.
Geography:Tirupati is situated at 13.65°N 79.42°E in the Tirupati district of Andhra Pradesh, in southern India. It rests at the base of the Seshachalam Hills, part of the Eastern Ghats, which were formed during the Precambrian era. One of its suburbs, Tirumala, is home to the famous Sri Venkateswara Temple and is located within these hills. The Tirupati Urban Development Authority encompasses Tirupati (City), Renigunta, Chandragiri, and several census towns including Akkarampalle, Avilala, Cherlopalle, Mangalam, Peruru, Settipalle, Thummala Gunta (part), Timminaidupalle, Tiruchanur, and Tirupati (NMA). The city is bordered by Srikalahasti to the east, Puttur to the south, Pakala to the west, and the Seshachalam hills (Tirumala) to the north. The Swarnamukhi River originates in the Chandragiri Hills and flows through Tirupati City before reaching Srikalahasti to the east.
