Arunachal erected war memorial for martyr of 1962 India-China war

The Indian Army has constructed a War Memorial in Arunachal Pradesh named after Subedar Joginder Singh who was martyred in the 1962 India-China war.

Subedar Joginder Singh, 1st Battalion the Sikh Regt received the highest gallantry award, Param Vir Chakra in the Eastern Theatre during the 1962 Sino- India War.

Indian Army organised the Inauguration Ceremony of Joginder War Memorial at Bum La on 23 October 2020 coinciding with the day on which the Battle of Tongpen La ( Bum La ) took place in 1962.

The Bum La is a border pass between Cona County (in Tibet) and Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh (India).

It is 37 km away from the town of Tawang and 43 km from the town of Cona (Tsona Dzong).

The pass currently serves as a trading point between Tawang and Tibet. It is also an agreed Border Personnel Meeting point for the security forces of China and India.
