R Ashwin represented Nottinghamshire and played 3 matches for them before heading to Tamil Nadu Premier League T20 competition.
Ashwin was in fine form as he contributed both with the bat and the ball for Nottinghamshire. The India all-rounder hit 197 runs and picked up 23 wickets from just 3 matches. Ashwin’s best figures were 12/144 in a losing cause against Surrey.
According to the official website of PCA, Nottinghamshire all-rounder Ashwin received a massive 61% of the supporters’ vote, well clear of Middlesex’s Dawid Malan (19.7%) in second, Yorkshire’s Keshav Maharaj (11%) in third and Malan’s teammate Toby Roland-Jones (8.4%) in fourth in the 4-man shortlist.
Notably, Ashwin won 81.53 MVP points for his efforts of 12/144 against Surrey, the most of any player in a single game this season. Warwickshire’s Jeetan Patel is a distant second with 60.98, the PCA said.
Ashwin had joined Nottinghamshire as replacement for Australia pacer James Pattinson. He played 3 matches for the county side in July and is expected to be joining the side again in September.
Ashwin has been named in India’s squad for the 2-Test series against the West Indies starting August 22.
“I am delighted to receive this award. I love playing county cricket and really enjoy being a part of the Nottinghamshire dressing room,” Ashwin was quoted as saying by the PCA website.
“I look forward to returning in September and playing the remainder of the season for Nottinghamshire,” Ashwin added.
