The Biden administration has continued to remain non-committal on support for permanent UNSC seat for India, while the US has in the past backed India’s bid for a permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

The Obama and Trump administrations had supported a permanent seat for India on the Security Council.
The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is one of the six principal organs of the United Nations charged with ensuring international peace and security, recommending the admission of new UN members to the General Assembly, and approving any changes to the UN Charter.
Its powers include establishing peacekeeping operations, enacting international sanctions, and authorizing military action.
India is currently (in 2021 and 2022) a non-permanent member of the UNSC and is president for the month of August.
