Sinha specialized in nuclear physics, high energy physics, Quark Gluon Plasma, and early cosmology.
For the first time, he led the Indian team to participate in the experiments of the European Atomic Research Organization in Geneva.
He was a recipient of the Padma Shri in 2001 and the Padma Bhushan in 2010. He was also awarded the RD Birla Award for Excellence in Physics in 2002.
