To celebrate the 50th anniversary of India’s first Hockey World Cup win in 1975, a book called ‘March of Glory’ was officially launched on March 18, 2025, at Shivaji Stadium in New Delhi. This book, co-written by hockey historian K. Arumugam and journalist Errol D’Cruz, beautifully chronicles the thrilling journey of the Indian team as they achieved World Cup glory in Kuala Lumpur on March 15, 1975.
The book is packed with essential match details, player quotes, and more than 250 rare photographs, providing a deep dive into India’s comebacks, a surprising defeat to Argentina, and the nail-biting semifinal and final wins. The event saw the presence of Hockey India president Dilip Tirkey, along with 1975 World Cup champions H. J. S. Chimni and Ashok Kumar, as well as Olympians Harbinder Singh, Zafar Iqbal, Vineet Kumar, and around 300 young hockey fans from One Thousand Hockey Legs (OTHL). Dilip Tirkey highlighted the book’s significance, stressing how crucial it is for capturing the rich history of Indian hockey.
