The roots of Hindu Kingdoms are complex with several factors claiming to be the cause of their downfall. It is said that they were tolerant of other religions and different ethnic groups which caused their downfall. However, on close observation, the factors that brought about their decline seem to be more intricate than that. Some of major factors that ruled to diminish of Hindu kingdoms are-

  1. Lacked unity
  2. They were divided by factions
  3. The Rajput princes exhausted one another by their mutual conflicts
  4. Methods were out of date
  5. Indians continued to rely on elephants while the Muslims possessed quick-moving cavalry
  6. The Muslims soldiers had better organization and able leaders
  7. Their religious zeal and their greed for the greater wealth of India provided stimulus to them
  8. The duty of fighting was confined to a particular class, the Kshatriyas
  9. Moreover, the Hindus were always on the defensive, which was always a weak position
