History of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj
Shivaji Maharaj was born on February 19, 1630, at the Shivneri Fort in what is modern-day Maharashtra. He was brought up by his mother, Jijabai, who shaped him with a strong sense of courage, justice and devotion to Hindu traditions.
He expanded Maratha Empire fighting with Mughals and Bijapur Sultanate as he grew up. Much of his success in battles was due to his guerilla warfare techniques. In 1674, he was officially crowned “Chhatrapati” (Emperor) at Raigad Fort.
