CRPF’s 59th Bravery Day 2024
Every year on April 9th, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) celebrates its Bravery Day, or Valour Day, to pay tribute to the brave soldiers who have selflessly served the nation. This year, 2024, marks the 59th anniversary of this significant day.
The origins of CRPF Bravery Day can be traced back to 1965, when a group of Pakistani soldiers launched an attack on Indian troops near the Rann of Kutch. During this encounter, a CRPF officer named Bhavana Ram bravely defended the Sardar Post, a crucial location, against the infiltrators. Though six CRPF soldiers lost their lives in this battle, their unwavering courage and determination forced the Pakistani army to retreat, despite their numerical superiority.
The Significance of CRPF Bravery Day
CRPF Bravery Day holds immense significance as it honors the dedication, sacrifice, and heroism of the CRPF personnel in protecting the security and integrity of the country. The day serves as a reminder of the CRPF’s steadfast commitment to maintaining law and order and dealing with internal threats to the nation.
The selfless actions of the CRPF soldiers during the 1965 Rann of Kutch incident, where they thwarted the Pakistani army’s attempts to capture the Sardar Post despite being outnumbered, are a testament to their unwavering bravery. The CRPF’s success in this battle, where 34 Pakistani soldiers were killed and four were captured, while six CRPF soldiers made the ultimate sacrifice, solidified the force’s reputation as a formidable defender of the nation.
The Role of the CRPF
The Central Reserve Police Force, functioning under the authority of the Ministry of Home Affairs, is India’s largest central armed police force. Its primary responsibilities include maintaining law and order in the states and union territories, as well as addressing internal security threats.
The CRPF has played a crucial role in safeguarding the country, from foiling the terrorist attack on the Indian Parliament in 2001 to continuously engaging in counter-insurgency operations in various parts of the country. The force’s dedication and sacrifices have earned them the respect and admiration of the nation.
Honouring the Fallen Heroes
The CRPF Bravery Day celebrations serve as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by the brave CRPF personnel in the line of duty. It is a day to honor the memory of the fallen heroes, whose actions have inspired generations of CRPF officers and motivated them to uphold the force’s motto of “Service and Loyalty.”
Through these annual commemorations, the CRPF not only pays tribute to its fallen comrades but also instills a sense of pride and purpose in the hearts of its serving personnel. The day encourages them to emulate the courage and selflessness displayed by their predecessors, ensuring that the CRPF continues to be a formidable guardian of the nation’s safety and security.
