More than 400 representatives elected in March and taking office on Wednesday, April 19, made the decision to maintain continuity in leadership.

The assembly then voted to elect the government’s leadership, with Díaz-Canel receiving 459 out of 462 votes. Vice President Salvador Valdés Mesa was ratified as well, with 439 votes.
