India and Uzbekistan Sign Bilateral Investment Treaty in Tashkent

India and Uzbekistan have signed a Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT) aimed at boosting investor confidence and enhancing economic cooperation between the two nations. The treaty was formalized by Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Uzbekistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Khodjayev Jamshid Abdukhakimovich in Tashkent. This BIT assures protection for investors from both countries, providing a minimum standard of treatment and non-discrimination while facilitating dispute resolution through arbitration.

Key Provisions of the BIT

The BIT includes several crucial provisions, such as:

Protection from Expropriation: Investments are safeguarded against expropriation.

Transparency and Compensation: The treaty promotes transparency in investment operations and outlines compensation protocols for losses.

Balanced Regulatory Rights: While protecting investments, the treaty maintains a balance with the state’s right to regulate, allowing adequate policy space.

To Combat Air Pollution “Dust Free Drive” Launched in Delhi

Delhi Lieutenant Governor (LG) Shri. L. G. Saxena launched the Dust Free Drive across the cities to combat the Air Pollution. This step looks to be important ahead of the tough and harsh air pollution in the winter in the Capital of Country.

Women in Space Leadership Programme Initiative Launches by DST

The Department of Science and technology (DST) in India with the collaboration with the British Council launches the initiative of “A Women in Space Leadership” (WiSLP) as a part of the UK-India Education and Research Initiative (UKIERI).

Main agenda of this initiative is to focus on supporting institutions in strengthening gender-inclusive practices to foster women’s leadership space sciences through developing a strategic leadership framework.

The programme would involve building sustainable mentoring networks and enhancing scientific innovation by integrating a gender perspective into critical areas such as astrophysics and telecommunications.

This programme is underpinned by three foundational pillars,

  • Intersectionality or understanding of different aspects of women’s identities
  • Collaborative culturally sensitive approaches that respond to opportunities and challenges in India
  • Using leadership theory from both social science and STEM to support female scientists to become more confident about their leadership abilities

Earth’s New Mini Moon: Asteroid 2024 PT5 to Orbit for Two Months

Earth is set to welcome a temporary “mini-moon” in the form of a small asteroid named 2024 PT5, which will orbit our planet from September 29 to November 25, 2024. Discovered by NASA’s Asteroid Terrestrial-Impact Last Alert System (Atlas) on August 7, 2024, this asteroid measures approximately 33 feet wide and originates from the Arjuna asteroid belt, a region filled with various space rocks. While it cannot be observed with the naked eye or typical telescopes, professional astronomers will be able to capture images of this tiny object moving rapidly across the night sky.

Oxygen Bird Park (Amrit Mahotsav Park) inaugurated by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari

Oxygen Bird Park (Amrit Mahotsav Park) has been inaugurated along the Nagpur-Hyderabad National Highway-44 in Nagpur, Maharashtra.

Oxygen Bird Park (Amrit Mahotsav Park) is an eco-initiative. It has been developed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). It has been developed near Jamtha, along the Nagpur-Hyderabad National Highway-44.

The park covers a total area of 8.23 hectares, including 2.5 hectares dedicated to social forestry. The park is designed to serve as a natural bird habitat. It is also designed to serve as a recreational space for locals and tourists. The project integrates environmental sustainability and recreational facilities.

The project was formally approved in March 2023 with a development cost of 14.31 crores.
