MP Aparajita Sarangi elected to IPU executive committee: Lok Sabha member from Bhubaneswar, Aparajita Sarangi has been elected as a member to the executive committee of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). The Parliamentarian from Odisha bagged 12 out of the total of 18 available votes in the election to the post held at Kigali, Rwanda.

Logistics Performance Index 2022: Other Highlights
- The logistics performance index 2022 report ranks the States according to their logistics ecosystem, highlights the major logistics-related challenges faced by the stakeholders, and includes suggestive recommendations, according to the fourth LEADS (Logistics Ease Across Different States) 2022 report, which was released by Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal.
- The logistics performance index 2022 intends to increase the focus on strengthening the performance of logistics across states, which is crucial for enhancing the nation’s trade and lowering transaction costs.
- In 2018, the initial logistics report was published. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there was no ranking last year.
- The LEADS survey evaluates the perspectives of various users and stakeholders along the value chain, including shippers, providers of terminal infrastructure services, providers of logistics services, transporters, and government organisations, in order to understand the factors that support and hinder the nation’s logistics ecosystem.
- The annual survey analyses the data from stakeholders (perception data) and States/UTs (objective data) and uses a statistical model to rate the logistics ecosystem of each State/UT.
- The Minister expressed hope that PM GatiShakti would assist distant communities, particularly those in the North East, undertake integrated infrastructure planning and bridge development gaps in order to bring about inclusive and equitable development.
- The PM GatiShakti programme aims to promote multimodal connectivity and logistics efficiency across key ministries and departments through integrated and comprehensive planning.

Telangana’s Hyderabad honoured with AIPH ‘World Green City award 2022’: The city of Hyderabad, Telangana, has been honored as the Grand winner of the AIPH (International Association of Horticultural Producers) World Green City Awards 2022, the most prestigious award of the Inaugural AIPH World Green City awards (2022 edition), for its initiative titled “Green Garland to the State of Telangana”. Hyderabad also won the award under the ‘Living Green for Economic Recovery and Inclusive Growth’ category.

Why the award was given to Hyderabad?
- Hyderabad has been awarded for its initiatives relying on greater use of plants and nature to create better city environments and helps fulfil local aspirations for improved economic, social and environmental resilience.
- The award acknowledged the State’s programme of ‘Telangana Ku Haritha Haram’, a large-scale tree-planting program that the State has taken up from 2015-16. “The program envisages increasing the tree cover of the State from 24% to 33% of the total geographical area of the State,” the award said.

Amit Shah inaugurates ‘Gatha Swaraj Ki’ gallery in Scindia Museum, Gwalior: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has inaugurated a gallery-cum-exhibition depicting the history of prominent Maratha commanders at the sprawling Jai Vilas Mahal of Scindias, the erstwhile rulers of Gwalior. Shah was in Gwalior to lay the foundation for the terminal building and expansion of the Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Airport.

He was welcomed at the Palace as per Maratha traditions. Shah visited the museum in the palace and inaugurated the ‘Gatha Swaraj ki-Maratha Gallery’ depicting the history of the main Maratha rulers including the Scindias, Gaikwads, Holkars, Nevalkars, Bhosales and the Pawars.
As per the booklet about the gallery, the word “Swaraj” was first used by Sakharam Ganesh Deoskar in a Bangla book- “Shivajir Mahatva” on the life of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in 1902. About the Jai Vilas Palace:
Jai Vilas Palace was built in 1874 by Jayajirao Scindia, the ruler of the erstwhile princely state of Gwalior in the British period. The major portion of the palace is now called the “Jiwajirao Scindia Museum”. A large portion of the palace is still the residence of some of his descendants including Jyotiraditya Scindia.

India Stands 3rd in the World in Terms of Fish Production: Union Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Dr. L Murugan has recently said that India stands third in the world in terms of fish production. India is the 3rd largest fish producing and 2nd largest aquaculture nation in the world after China. Making specific reference to Karnataka, the Union Minister said that 734.77 crore rupees was allocated to the state under the flagship scheme of Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) from 2020-21 till date for the development of infrastructure facilities. Under PMMSY, over 53 crore rupees was given to complete phase three expansion of Mangalore fishing harbour, phase two of Gangolli fishing harbour, Alvekodi and Thenginagundi fish landing centres.

In principle, approval is given for the development of state of an art fishing harbour at Majali in Uttara Kannada district at a total cost of 250 crore rupees. Under PMMSY, approval is given to acquire 114 new deep-sea fishing vessels at a total cost of 136 crore rupees for traditional fishermen in the state. A total of 1000 communication and tracking devices and 781 safety kits were also distributed to traditional and motorized fishing vessels at a total cost of 11.31 crore rupees. Under PMMSY, 62 new Ice plants or cold storage facilities, 799 fish transport vehicles, one fish retail market, 84 fish kiosks and three value-added enterprises were supported with an investment of 133.15 crore rupees. The minister informed the fish production in Karnataka has increased from 6.80 lakh tonnes in 2019-20 to 10.74 lakh tonnes during 2021-22 which is about 76 percent growth. PMMSY has helped create 1.4 lakh direct and indirect job opportunities in this sector in the state.
