Global Startup Ecosystem ranking: Kerala ranks top in Asia in global report
The startup ecosystem in Kerala has been ranked as the best in Asia and fourth in terms of Affordable Talent in the Global Startup Ecosystem Report (GSER).
The GSER was released on Tuesday in the backdrop of the ongoing London Tech Week 2022, which brings together global governments and corporate leaders, inspirational start-up founders and investors to discuss the power of technology for societies. The State has also been ranked fourth in global ranking in the GSER, drawn up jointly by policy advisory and research organisation Startup Genome and Global Entrepreneurship Network. In the first GSER published in 2020, Kerala was ranked 5th in Asia and 20th in the world.

- As per the report released by the policy advisory and research firm Startup Genome, the city of Bengaluru has moved up to number 22 in the Global Startup Ecosystem ranking.
- Bengaluru’s tech ecosystem value is at $105 billion which is higher than that of Singapore at $89 billion and Tokyo at $62 billion, report showed.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw Launches ‘StartUps For Railways’ Policy – Aiming at bringing about innovative solutions to problems like rail fracture, reduction of time between two trains and other passenger related issues, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has launched “StartUps for Railways”, an important initiative in the field of innovation. Under the ‘StartUps For Railways’ Policy, innovators will be provided with a grant of up to Rs. 1.5 Crore on an equal sharing basis with milestone-wise payment provision. The Railway Innovation policy will help in offering start-ups a good opportunity to connect with the Indian Railways.

PM Modi inaugurates Jagatguru Sreesant Tukaram Maharaj Shila Mandir in Pune – Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said Sant Tukaram became not only a ray of hope for the present society but for the future also. The Prime Minister said this while addressing devotees after inaugurating the Shila Mandir of Jagadguru Sant Tukaram Maharaj at Dehu village near Pune. He said Veer Savarkar sang abhangs (devotional poetry in praise of Lord Vitthal) of Sant Tukaram while in jail during India’s freedom struggle.
Sant Tukaram was a Warkari saint and poet. he was famously known for Abhanga devotional poetry and community-oriented worship through spiritual songs known as Kirtans. He used to live in Dehu. ‘Rashtriya Puruskar Portal’ launched – the Union Government has developed the Rashtriya Puruskar Portal in order to encourage openness and public partnership. Several civilian awards have been instituted by various Ministries/Departments/Agencies of the Government of India to recognize people who have excelled and made exceptional contributions in their fields.
For inviting nominations for various awards, a common Rashtriya Puruskar Portal (https://awards.gov.in ) has been developed by the Government so as to bring together all the Awards of the various Ministries/Departments/Agencies of the Government of India under one digital platform to ensure transparency and public partnership (Jan Bhagidari). Amara Raja to open a green hydrogen fuel outlet for NTPC in Leh
Energy solutions company, Amara Raja Power Systems Ltd. (ARPSL), has recently received a contract from National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) to set up India’s first green hydrogen fuelling station in Leh. The pilot project is being set up in the extreme conditions of Leh, at an altitude of 3,600 metres above sea level. ARPSL says that this project will be part of the National Hydrogen Energy Mission, which will lead to large-scale green hydrogen mobility and storage projects. The learning from this will also be useful for deploying similar fuel stations across India. A green hydrogen fuel outlet for NTPC will help in achieving net-zero carbon emission by 2070.
Green hydrogen will be produced by splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen, using an electrolysis process powered by electricity generated by renewable energy sources. The hydrogen produced will leave no carbon footprint. The pilot project will produce a minimum of 80kg/day of 99.97% pure hydrogen which will be compressed, stored and dispensed.
Gurunaidu Sanapathi Wins Gold At IWF Youth Weightlifting Championships
Gurunaidu Sanapathi has clinched a gold medal for India at the 2022 IWF Youth World Championships in Mexico on Monday. Weighing 55 kg, Sanapathi won the gold medal by lifting a total of 230 kg, with a snatch of 104 kg and Clean & Jerk of 126 kg. Alongside Sanapathi, Soumya S Dalvi added another medal to India’s tally in the tournament by winning the bronze medal. She participated in the 45 kg event and bagged the bronze medal with a total lift of 148 kg and the silver medal with a C & J of 83 kg.

Microsoft’s Internet Explorer retired after 27 years on 15th June
Microsoft has announced the retirement of 27-year-old Internet Explorer (IE) as the firm’s oldest browser will be completely phased out from June 15. Microsoft released the first version of Internet Explorer in 1995 as an add-on package for Windows 95, the antediluvian era of web surfing dominated by the first widely popular browser, Netscape Navigator.

Trade deficit of India broadens to $24.29 billion in May 2022
Trade data released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry showed that India’s May trade deficit widened to $24.29 billion from $6.53 billion a year ago. May’s trade deficit was pushed up by a surge in imports, which rose 62.83% year-on-year to $63.22 billion, while exports rose 20.55% to $38.94 billion, revised trade data released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry showed. Despite the uncertainty and volatility caused by the war in Europe, the engineering goods exports rose by 12.65 per cent year-on-year to $9.71 billion in May 2022. The trade deficit stood at $6.53 billion on May 2021. Cumulative exports in April-May 2022-23 rose by about 25% to $78.72 billion. Imports in April-May 2022-23 rose 45.42% to $123.41 billion.
