Former BCCI Secretary Amitabh Choudhary passes away

Amitabh Chaudhary, the former BCCI acting secretary and president of Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) died of heart attack on Tuesday morning.
He was 58. He served as acting secretary of the BCCI until 2019. He entered cricket administration in 2004 and served as the Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) president for over a decade.

Career of Amitabh Chaudhary:

Choudhary was first appointed as team manager of the Indian team in 2005 on their tour of Zimbabwe, remembered for the acrimony between Sourav Ganguly and Greg Chappell. Choudhary also served as BCCI’s joint-secretary from 2013 to 2015 during Anurag Thakur’s reign as BCCI president.

He was a retired senior IPS officer, who rose to the rank of IGP with the Jharkhand Police and was the chairman of the Jharkhand Public Service Commission. He played a crucial role in developing infrastructure for Jharkhand cricket.

Ireland all-rounder Kevin O’Brien on Tuesday announced his retirement from international cricket after falling out of contention for this year’s T20 World Cup in Australia. O’Brien played three Tests, 153 one-day internationals and 110 T20 internationals during a 16-year international career and had spells with a number of English county clubs and T20 franchise sides around the world.

The 38-year-old famously blasted the Irish to victory over England in a 2011 World Cup group match in India with a 50-ball century—still the tournament’s quickest. The Dubliner scored 9,048 runs in total for Ireland, including the country’s first Test hundred, a second-innings knock of 118 against Pakistan in 2018, and took 276 wickets.

Indian Railways launches Operation Yatri Suraksha

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) launched a pan-India operation known as Operation Yatri Suraksha to provide round-the-clock security to passengers.

It facilities surveillance through CCTV, checking on active criminals, presence of a person at different stations to reduce crime. The RPF has launched a month-long pan-India drive against criminals who loot passengers in July 2022. The RPF caught 365 suspects who were handed over to the concerned GRPs for legal action.

Bank of Baroda introduce new deposit products

Bank of Baroda (BoB) has launched the ‘Baroda Tiranga Deposit Scheme’, a special retail term deposit product that offers interest rates of 5.75% for 444 days and 6% for 555 days.

This scheme is applicable on retail deposits below ₹2 crore and remain in force till December 31, 2022. Senior citizens will earn an additional interest rate of 0.50%, while non-callable deposits will get 0.15% extra.

Yes Bank partners with SellerApp to facilitate adoption of ONDC

Yes Bank has announced its partnership with SellerApp (a seller-centric intelligence platform) to adopt Open Network Digital Commerce (ONDC).

This partnership will help them to expand their digital commerce footprint. ONDC is a strategic initiative of the Indian government with an aim to democratize the entire digital commerce space.

The network is also being built as an alternative to e-tailers like Walmart-owned Flipkart and Amazon in the Indian ecommerce market.

Rajkiran Rai named as new MD of NaBFID

The Centre and the board of the National Bank for Financing Infrastructure and Development (NaBFID) has appointed Rajkiran Rai G as its managing director (MD) for the next five years. The board of NaBFID approved Rai’s appointment on July 30 based on clearance by the RBI, centre and the Development finance institutions (DFI) nomination and remuneration committee. Rai took charge as the DFI’s MD on August 8, and will hold the top post till May 18, 2027, according to details of the appointment.

The DFI is looking to commence its operations soon. The Centre, in October 2021, had appointed K V Kamath as chairperson of the government-owned DFI. Subsequently, government nominees Pankaj Jain and Sumita Dawra were appointed directors to the board of DFI. The government has already infused Rs 20,000 crore into NaBFID to help the DFI start its operations to catalyse investment in the infrastructure sector.

Sikkim Chief Minister, P S Tamang has launched two welfare schemes for women – ‘Aama Yojana’ and ‘Vatsalya Yojana’.

Aama Yojana:

  • All unemployed mothers in the state will receive Rs 20,000 annually.
  • Amount will be deposited in their bank accounts.

Vatsalya Yojana:

  • An aid of Rs 3 lakh will be provided to childless women for in vitro fertilization treatment.
  • The amount will be given in two phases (Rs 1 lakh in the first and Rs two lakh in the last phase).

Karnataka Bank launches new Term Deposit Scheme KBL Amrit Samriddhi

Karnataka Bank has launched a new Term Deposit Scheme, KBL Amrit Samriddhi under ACC and Fixed Deposit for a tenure of 75 weeks (525 days), will be available for a limited time.

The interest rate for this Deposit Scheme is 6.10% per annum. With the new product, KBL Amrit Samriddhi, the bank has extended the benefit of increase in the interest rates to customers.

BRO to build first steel slag road in Arunachal Pradesh

The Border Road Organization (BRO) will construct a pilot road using steel slag Arunachal Pradesh, which can withstand heavy rains and adverse climatic conditions.

If this found successful, then this can become a big solution for building durable roads along the strategic areas.

This project has been initiated after the success of using 100% steel slag on a port connectivity road in Gujarat, which has longer life and built at low cost.
