Singer KK, who gave Indian music lovers many hits over the last three decades has died at 53. He gave a performance at Nazrul Mancha on Tuesday and later went to his hotel where he fell ill. He was brought to a hospital where he was declared dead. KK was regarded as one of the top singers of Bollywood. KK sang in Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi and Assamese.

KK sang numerous hit songs in various films. Some of KK’s most popular songs that remain his best songs include Tu Hi Meri Shab Hai (Gangster), Tadap Tadap Ke Is Dil Se (Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam), Awarapan Banjarapan (Jism), Aankhon Mein Teri Ajab Si (Om Shanti Om) and Khuda Jaane (Bachna Ae Haseeno). His song Yaaron, released in 1999, made him a household name.

Jan Aushadhi outlets for the first time crossed the Rs 100 crore sales mark in May, an official release said on Tuesday. Jan Aushadhi outlets offer more than 1,600 generic medicines, 250 surgical devices, nutraceuticals, Ayush products and Suvidha Sanitary pads. The Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) is implemented by the Pharmaceuticals & Medical Devices Bureau of India (PMBI).

Total sales in May 2021 were Rs 83.77 crore. The government has set a goal of increasing the number of Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras (PMBJKs) to 10,000 by March 2024, with the goal of providing excellent medications at affordable prices to the ordinary man, particularly the underprivileged. At the moment, the country has 8,735 such outlets spread throughout 739 districts.

Free trade deal signed between Israel and UAE

Israel has signed a free trade deal with the United Arab Emirates on May 31, its first with an Arab country.The agreement helps to increase bilateral trade in goods and services, increase Israeli exports to UAE. It also provides customs exemption immediately or gradually on 96% of trade between the countries.

The UAE was the first Gulf country to normalise ties with Israel and only the third Arab nation to do so after Egypt and Jordan.

SEBI imposed monetary penalty of Rs 1 cr on IIFL for misusing client funds

SEBI has imposed a penalty of Rs 1 crore on India Infoline Ltd (IIFL) for misutilisation of client securities. The amount has to be paid by IIFL within 45 days.

The penalty came after the SEBI’s inspections of the books of account of IIFL for the period April 2011 to January 2017. It was found that IIFL had misused client funds in the range of Rs 0.59 crores to Rs 397.02 crores for settlement obligation of debit balance clients.

Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Bureau of India (PMBI) has crossed 100 crore rupees sales May 2022.

PMBI is the implementing agency of Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP). The central government has also set a target to increase the number of Jan Aushadhi Kendras to 10,000 by March 2024 with a view to provide quality medicines at an affordable rate. 739 districts of India have been covered under the PMBJP.

Former SBI officer Natarajan Sundar joins NARCL as MD & CEO

The National Assets Reconstruction Company Ltd (NARCL) on Tuesday said it on-boarded former State Bank of India (SBI) official Natarajan Sundar as its managing director and chief executive on 30 May. Sundar is a banking veteran having served SBI for over 37 years and retired as Dy MD and Chief Credit Officer of the bank. He was selected through a competitive selection process through an open advertisement and was interviewed in April 2022, by a selection panel consisting of senior bankers from both the Public and Private sectors.

Other appointments:

NARCL has also appointed Karnam Sekar as an independent director and non-executive chairman of the board. Sekar was the chief executive of Indian Overseas Bank from July 2019 to June 2020, prior to which he was the head of Dena Bank from September 2018 until its merger in April 2019.

COVAX: Bangladesh now the top recipient of Covid vaccines

Bangladesh remains the top recipient of Covid-19 vaccine doses under COVAX in one year as UNICEF delivered over 190 million doses of vaccines to Bangladesh. COVAX is responsible for more than 62 percent of the doses delivered to Bangladesh.The vaccines came through COVAX, the global initiative co-led by the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovation, Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, and the World Health Organization with UNICEF as a key delivery partner.

UNICEF delivered the first COVAX consignment of vaccinations on June 1 last year, following the start of COVID 19 vaccination in Bangladesh in February 2021. Only 4% ofBangladesh’s population had been properly vaccinated at the time.After a year and a few months, more than 11.7 crore individuals, or 69 percent of Bangladesh‘s population, have received two doses of the vaccine.

Sheldon Yett, the UNICEF Representative in Bangladesh, said the success in putting millions of vaccines into the hands of people in every corner of the country has been nothing short of astounding. UNICEF has also aided the Government’s COVID-19 response by bolstering the cold and ultra-cold chains, delivering crucial supplies, stimulating demand, assisting with data management, and bolstering vaccine administration capability.

Bharat Dynamics signs deal with Defence Ministry for ASTRA MK-1 BVR

The Defence Ministry has signed a contract of 2,971 crore with Bharat Dynamics Ltd under the ‘buy Indian’ category.

The contract was signed for supply of the indigenously developed Astra Mk-I Beyond Visual Range air to air missiles and associated equipment for the Navy and the Indian Air Force. The Defence Acquisition Council headed by Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh had approved the purchase of 248 Astra-MK1 missile (200 for the IAF and 48 for the Navy) in July 2020.

Fiscal deficit of India improves to 6.7% in FY22

Fiscal deficit of India for 2021-22 has improved to 6.71% of the GDP over the revised budget estimate of 6.9% mainly on account of higher tax realisation.

The fiscal deficit in the absolute terms was Rs 15,86,537 crore (provisional). The finance ministry had estimated the deficit at Rs 15,91,089 crore or 6.9 per cent of GDP in February 2022. The tax receipts were at Rs 18.2 trillion and the total expenditure too was higher at Rs 37.94 trillion.

J&K Panthers Party founder, Bhim Singh passes away

Founder of Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party, senior leader, and lawyer Bhim Singh passed away in Jammu at 81.

He founded the Panthers Party in 1982. He was remains Panthers Party chairman for 30 years, until 2012.

The veteran leader was known as ‘Sher-e-Jammu’ for raising the voice of the people of Jammu before the Kashmir-centric governments. He was expelled from the party in November 2022.

Frontier becomes the world’s fastest supercomputer

US built supercomputer, Frontier dethrones the Japan’s Fugaku to become the world’s fastest supercomputer. Fugaku, was jointly developed by RIKEN and Fujitsu Ltd. in 2020, which topped the supercomputer benchmarking index.

Frontier was built by using Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) architecture and equipped with Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) processors. Fugaku was built for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).
