Rumeli Dhar retires from all forms of international cricket
India pace allrounder Rumeli Dhar on Wednesday announced her retirement from all formats of the game, ending a career where she starred with crucial match-winning contributions for the national side, including being their captain, for 15 years since her debut against England in 2003. . Dhar played her last international match in the tri-nation women’s T20I series between India, Australia and England, at Brabourne in 2018. In all, she featured in four Tests, 78 ODIs, and 18 T20Is, scoring 1328 runs and taking 84 wickets across formats. She was also part of the India team that had reached the 2005 World Cup final in South Africa.
Having made her international debut in 2003, against England in Lincoln, Dhar made an unlikely comeback, to the Indian team at the age of 34, when she was called up to India’s T20 squad for their tour of South Africa in February 2018.
Sri Lanka revises Minimum Age for Migrant Domestic Workers
Sri Lanka has decided to amend the Minimum Age for Migrant Domestic Workers to 21 years. A document from the Department of Government Information said that the Cabinet of Ministers granted permission to revise the said age limit, after considering the recommendations of the Cabinet-appointed Sub-Committee. For Saudi Arabia the minimum age is 25 years, and for other Middle Eastern Countries is 23 years, and for all other countries is 21 years.

Assam becomes the 36th State/UT to implement One Nation One Ration Card
Assam has operationalised the Centre’s ‘One Nation, One Ration Card’ programme, with this, it is implemented across the country.
Beneficiaries can get their quota of subsidised foodgrains from any electronic point of sale device (ePoS)-enabled fair price shops.
Beneficiaries can use their existing ration cards with biometric authentication.
The implementation of ONORC was initiated in August 2019.
The government has also rolled out the ‘MERA RATION’ mobile app.
Jammu and Kashmir to host G-20 meetings in 2023
In a significant development, Jammu and Kashmir will be hosting the 2023 meetings of G-20, an influential grouping that brings together the world’s major economies, with the Union Territory government Thursday setting up a five-member high level committee for overall coordination. Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal was appointed as India’s Sherpa for the G20 in September 2021. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, India will hold the G-20 presidency from December 1, 2022, and convene the first G20 leaders’ summit in 2023.
India’s representation at G20 summits has been led by Prime Minister Modi since 2014. The G20 countries include Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, France, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, the United States and the United Kingdom.

Ookla Speedtest Global Index: India ranked 115th
The Speedtest Global Index released by network intelligence and connectivity insights provider Ookla showed that India recorded 14.28 Mbps median mobile download speeds in the month of May, slightly better than 14.19 Mbps in April. With this, the country is now three notches up in its global ranking and is at 115th position.
India also improved its global ranking for overall fixed median download speeds, from 76th in April to 75th in May, according to network intelligence and connectivity leader Ookla. In April, India had dropped four spots in rank globally for overall median fixed broadband speeds — from 72nd to 76th spot.
Key points:
- According to the May Speedtest Global Index, Norway and Singapore are on the top spots for global mobile speeds (median download speed of 129.40 Mbps) and fixed broadband speeds (209.21 Mbps ) respectively.
- The African countries, namely Cote d’Ivoire and Gabon and Congo registered the highest growth in mobile download speeds and fixed broadband speeds respectively in the month of May, the report showed.
Dr D J Pandian appointed to lead NDB’s India Regional Office in Gift City
Shanghai-headquartered New Development Bank (NDB) of the BRICS countries has appointed former bureaucrat Dr D J Pandian as the Director-General of its India Regional Office in Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City), the bank announced on Tuesday. Pandian earlier served as the Vice President and Chief Investment Officer of the Beijing-based Asia Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) in which India is the 2nd largest shareholder after China.
During his tenure at the AIIB, he was instrumental in securing USD 6.7 billion in funding for 28 projects in India, stated to be the highest project finance extended by the bank. A retired IAS officer, Pandian had also served as Chief Secretary of Gujarat. The announcement of Pandian’s appointment comes as China, which is the chair of this year’s BRICS, is set to host the summit of the five-member bloc via video link on June 23-24 in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to take part.

South Korea launches homegrown Nuri rocket into orbit
South Korea has successfully launched satellites into orbit with its homegrown Nuri rocket. This is a crucial step for the country’s space program expansion after a failed attempt last year. With this launch, South Korea becomes the 10th country to place a satellite with its own technology.
Nuri is a three-stage rocket, more than 47 meters (154 feet) long and weighing 200 tons,. It was launched from the Naro Space Center.

Indian Navy conducts 38th coordinated patrol with Indonesian Navy
India has conducted 38th edition of the Coordinated Patrol with Indonesian Navy (IND-INDO CORPAT) from 13-24 Jun 22.
INS Karmuk (indigenously built missile corvette) is based at the Andaman and Nicobar Command, along with a Dornier Maritime Patrol Aircraft.
While the Indonesian Navy is being represented by KRI Cut Nyak Dien, a Kapitan Pattimura (PARCHIM I) class corvette. The closing ceremony is scheduled at Sabang, Indonesia on 23 June 22.

ISRO launches India’s Communication satellite ‘GSAT-24’ from French Guiana
Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully launched India’s communication satellite, ‘GSAT-24’ from Kourou in French Guiana.
It is built by ISRO for NewSpace India Limited (NSIL). It was launched by French company Arianespace. It is a 24-Ku band communication satellite, weight 4180 kg, pan-India coverage for meeting DTH application needs. This is the first demand driven communication satellite mission undertaken by NSIL after space sector reforms.
PM Modi inaugurates ‘Vanijya Bhawan’, new premises of Commerce Ministry
PM Modi has inaugurated the new premises of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, ‘Vanijya Bhawan’ in New Delhi.
He has also launched a new portal named NIRYAT (National Import-Export Record for Yearly Analysis of Trade). The portal was developed as a one stop platform to get all the required information related to India’s foreign trade.
