India will host ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025

India will host the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup in 2025, as confirmed by the apex cricketing body on Tuesday. The announcement was made by the ICC Board on Tuesday in Birmingham, on the final day of the global cricket body’s annual conference. BCCI will leave no stone unturned to make it a memorable event for everyone concerned. The infrastructure is in place and will have a very successful edition of the World Cup. The hosts were selected via a competitive bidding process overseen by a Board sub-committee chaired by Martin Snedden along with Clare Connor, Sourav Ganguly and Ricky Skerritt.

The ICC Board accepted the recommendations of the committee who conducted a thorough review of each bid along with ICC management. India, Bangladesh, England and Sri Lanka were named as the four hosts for ICC women’s white-ball events from 2024-27.

The cricketer Karuna has announced her retirement from all forms of Cricket. She has played five Test matches out of which she made 195 runs with 40 as her highest score since making her debut against England at Delhi in November 2005.

In August 2014. she has played her last Test for India against England at Wormsley. She has also played 44 ODIs and scored 987 runs with a solitary hundred and nine fifties and 103 as her highest score.

Parent company of Paytm, One97 Communications has appointed Nakul Jain as the CEO of Paytm Payments Services Ltd (PPSL). He replaced Praveen Sharma, who is now serving as the acting CEO of PPSL.

Praveen Sharma has been promoted to oversee the organisation’s commerce vertical in addition to his other duties. Nakul Jain has served as managing director of private banking, priority banking, deposits and branch banking at Standard Chartered Bank.

Wasfia becomes first Bangladeshi to scale K2

Mountaineer Wasifa Nazreen (39) has become the first Bangladeshi to scale the second highest mountain peak K2 in Pakistan. She has climbed the 8611 metres high K2 mountain peak.

Wasifa Nazreen has also climbed Mount Everest in 2012 and became the second woman from Bangladesh to do so. The team consisted of 21 mountaineers, including some of the most renowned climbers in the world like Mingma Tenzi Sherpa, Mingma David Sherpa, and Nirmal Purja.

City Union Bank and Aditya Birla Health Insurance Co Ltd (ABHICL), have signed a bancassurance partnership for the distribution of health insurance products through the former’s network of branches across the country.

CUB has already signed bancassurance pacts with Star Health and Alliance Insurance, and Care Health (formerly known as Religare Health Insurance Co). The CUB has also signed bancassurance pact with Royal Sundaram General Insurance.

He received the Bhai Madhavrao Bagal Award for his book ‘Kahani Manav Pranyachi’ in 2010. He was awarded with Granthali, Vidarbha Sahitya Sangh, and Lokmangal. He was offered the Sahitya Akademi award for his novel ‘Udya’ in 2020  but he politely refused as by then he had decided not to accept any awards.

India grants USD 2.5 million to UNRWA for Palestine refugees

India has contributed USD 2.5 million to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). India is a dedicated donor to UNRWA and donated USD 20 million in support of core UNRWA services to Palestine refugees across the Middle East since 2018.

The UNRWA was established as a humanitarian agency in 1949. This agency is fully funded through voluntary contributions and grants from donor countries.

Parshottam Rupala (Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying) has launched NDDB MRIDA Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary company of National Dairy Development Boar (NDDB).

Aim: To provide structured impetus to manure management efforts.

NDDB has established NDDB MRIDA Limited (Unlisted Public Limited Company) under the Companies Act, 2013 on July 1, 2022. This will help in savings to the farmers by virtue of the replacement of cooking fuel with biogas.

World Bank appoints Indian national Indermit Gill as chief economist

Indian national, Indermit Gill has been appointed as a new Chief Economist and Senior Vice President for Development Economics of World Bank, will be effective September 1, 2022.

He will succeed American economist, Carmen Reinhart. He is currently serving as the Vice President for Equitable Growth, Finance, and Institutions. He will be the second Indian to serve as chief economist after Kaushik Basu who was Chief Economist of the World Bank from 2012 to 2016.

ADB approves $96 mn loan to HP for safe drinking water project

The Asian Development Bank has approved $96.3 million loan for safe drinking water and sanitation project in Himachal Pradesh. The loan has been provided under the Himachal Pradesh Rural Drinking Water Improvement and Livelihood Project.

Aim: To provide piped water to all rural households by 2024.

This also upgrade water supply infrastructure and strengthen institutional capacity to ensure safe, sustainable, and inclusive rural water supply and sanitation services.
