England’s 2019 ICC World Cup Winning Captain Eoin Morgan, on Tuesday, announced his retirement from international cricket. He has drawn the curtain after an illustrious white-ball career of over 10,000 runs. Earlier, reports had emerged that Morgan wants to head the English side in the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia this year.  The 35-year-old captained England Men to their first-ever ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup victory at Lord’s in 2019 throughout his 13-year international career with England. He also competed for England in the 2010 ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup, which was held in the Caribbean.

In all ODI and T20I games, Morgan has scored the most runs for England Men overall and has received the most caps. He led England to the top of the ICC world rankings throughout his seven years as the Men’s ODI captain, winning noteworthy series against all the major countries. He earned a record-breaking 225 ODI caps and amassed 6,957 runs—including 1300 at an average of 39.75—during that time. The highest win record by any England Men’s ODI Captain in the history of the game was 76 victories in 126 games Morgan managed, with a win rate of 60%.

He shared the record for most Men’s T20 International team captains with MS Dhoni of India with 72 appearances. He played 115 times for England, making 2,458 runs in all. He received 16 Test cricket caps over a three-year span, earning two centuries. With 17 sixes against Afghanistan at the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup, he also holds the record for the most sixes in an ODI innings ever.

Mohammed Jalood has been appointed as president of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) at an event held in Tirana, Albania. Jalood is the first permanent president since Tamás Aján has stepped down in 2020 after controlling the IWF for 44 years.

President of Argentina, Alberto Fernandez has also reiterated his desire for Argentina to join BRICS. The term BRIC was coined by Goldman Sachs economist Jim O’Neill in 2001.

Govt launches e-learning portal 'Dak Karmayogi' for Dak Sevaks employees

Communications Minister, Ashwini Vaishnav and MoS Communications Devusinh Chauhan have launched ‘Dak Karmayogi’,  an e-learning portal. This portal is developed under the vision of ‘Mission Karmayogi’.

This portal will develop the competencies of about four lakh Gramin Dak Sevaks and departmental employees. After the completion of the final assessment, a system-generated certificate will generate, and sent to the trainee’s registered email ID automatically.

World Asteroid Day (also known as International Asteroid Day) is an annual UN-sanctioned global awareness campaign event observed on June 30, which is the anniversary of the Siberian Tunguska event of 1908. To provide knowledge to the general public about the importance of asteroids in history, and the role they play in our solar system today. The theme of Asteroid Day 2022 is “small is beautiful.” International Asteroid Day aims to raise public awareness about the asteroid impact hazard and to inform the public about the crisis communication actions to be taken at the global level in case of a credible near-Earth object threat.

Significance

The destructive effects that an asteroid’s collision with the Earth can have are brought to light on World Asteroid Day or International Asteroid Day. The part asteroids played in the creation of our cosmos, potential uses for their resources, how asteroids pave the way for more research, and how we might shield the earth from asteroids’ effects.

National Statistics Day is celebrated on June 29 on the birth anniversary of late Professor Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis. Often referred to as the ‘father of Indian statistics’, Mahalanobis, was born on June 29, 1893, in Calcutta (now Kolkata), West Bengal. The day aims to raise public awareness of the value of statistics in everyday life as well as in the planning and development process. The celebrated statistician, Professor Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis, is recognised on National Statistics Day for his contributions to economic planning and statistics.

It was initially observed on June 29, 2007, to honour Professor Mahalanobis’ exceptional contributions to statistical research and economic planning. Maharashtra govt signs MoU with Adani Energy for 11000 MW power generation

The Energy department of Maharashtra government has signed an MoU with Adani Green Energy Group Ltd (AGEL) to generate green power. It would require an investment of Rs 60,000 crore and generate employment.

AGEL will set up Pumped Storage Projects (PSP) in the next five years, and will produce 11,000 MW power. The MoU was signed by Narayan Karad, Deputy Secretary, Department of Energy, Maharashtra and Ajit Barodia, Senior Vice President, Adani Industries Group.

Kerala Govt will launch MEDISEP scheme for State Government employees

Kerala government will launch the MEDISEP scheme – Medical insurance scheme for State Government employees, pensioners and their eligible family members from 1st July, 2022.

It will provide cashless medical assistance with a comprehensive coverage up to 3 lakhs per year. The annual premium would be Rs 4,800 plus 18% GST for the policy period of 2022-24.  

Monthly premium: Rs.500

It is being implemented through the public sector insurer, Oriental Insurance Company.

Hockey player, Varinder Singh has passed away at the age of 75. He was an integral part of the gold-medal winning Indian team at the 1975 men’s Hockey World Cup in Kuala Lumpur.

Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully test-fired indigenously-developed Laser-Guided Anti-Tank Guided Missile (ATGM) from Main Battle Tank (MBT) Arjun Tank in Maharashtra’s Ahmednagar

The ATGM has been developed with multi-platform launch capability. It is currently undergoing technical evaluation trials from 120 mm rifled gun of MBT Arjun. The successful development of the laser guided ATGM will enhance the fire power of the MBT Arjun.
