International Day of UN Peacekeepers observed on 29th May
The International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers, May 29, is “a day to pay tribute to all the men and women who have served and continue to serve in United Nations peacekeeping operations and to honor the memory of those who have lost their lives in the cause of peace. The International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers also offers a chance to honour around 4,200 peacekeepers who lost their lives serving under the UN flag since, including 135 who lost the battle last year. UN Secretary-General António Guterres said that this year, the focus is on the Power of Partnerships.
The theme of the International Day of UN Peacekeepers 2022:
The theme for this year’s Day is “People. Peace. Progress. The Power of Partnerships.” Peacekeeping is one of the many tools used by the United Nations to secure global peace and security. UN Peacekeepers are also known as the Blue Helmets, is a collective enterprise, which aims to change lives for the better.
India, UAE sign MoU to enhance bilateral cooperation on climate action
India and United Arab Emirates have signed an MoU to establish a framework to facilitate and enhance bilateral cooperation on climate action.
The agreement was signed between Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Bhupender Yadav and UAE Climate Envoy and Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology Dr Sultan Al Jaber in New Delhi yesterday. The basic objective of this MoU is to establish a framework to facilitate and enhance bilateral cooperation on climate action, and also contributes towards implementing the Paris Agreement. United Arab Emirates will host COP28 in 2023.

Aims to reduce carbon emissions to restrict global temperature rise to preferably 1.5 degrees Celsius as compared to the pre-industrial area.
India’s GDP growth likely to be 8.2-8.5 per cent in FY22: SBI report
SBI’s research report Ecowrap, in its latest edition has projected India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth at 8.2 to 8.5 per cent for FY22. For Q4FY22, the SBI research report expects growth of 2.7 per cent.
Early trend of Q4FY22 results for corporates, in the listed space, Sectors like IT-software, auto ancillary, steel, FMCG, chemicals, and paper has better growth numbers in report.

Olympic medalist, Lovlina Borgohain elected as IBA Athletes Committee Chair
Olympics bronze medallist, Lovlina Borgohain has been elected as the voting member and chair on the Board of Directors for the Athletes’ Committee, the International Boxing Association (IBA).
She has received the highest number of votes at the 2022 Women’s World Championships election. Shiva Thapa was elected by the boxers that participated during the men’s world championships that was held in October 2021.

Jitendra Singh inaugurates India’s first ‘Lavender Festival’ in Bhaderwah
Dr. Jitendra Singh (Union Minister) has inaugurated the nation’s first Lavender Festival in Jammu’s district Bhaderwah.
Lavender cultivation has changed the destiny of farmers in Jammu and Kashmir under the government initiative of ‘Aroma Mission or Purple Revolution’. Bhaderwah is in Doda district, is the best place for lavender cultivation in terms of land and climate.
Aroma Mission: To encourage the cultivation of aromatic crops for the production of essential oils.
US becomes India’s biggest trading partner in FY22
The US has replaced China to become the India’s top trading partner in 2021-22, this is reflecting strong economic ties between the two countries.
The bilateral trade between two countries stood at $119.42 billion (2021-22) as against $80.51 billion in 2020-21, according to the data of the commerce ministry.
Other top trading partner: China ($115.42 billion), The UAE ($72.9 billion), Saudi Arabia ($42,85 billion), Iraq ($34.33 billion) and Singapore ($30 billion).
‘Triangle of Sadness’ wins the Palme d’Or at 75th Cannes Film Festival
‘Triangle of Sadness’ directed by Ruben Ostlund has won the Palme d’Or at the 75th Cannes Film Festival for the second time. Earlier, he had received the cinema’s most prestigious prizes for his movie ‘The Square’ in 2017.
Indian filmmaker Shaunak Sen has won the ‘L’Oeil d’Or’ award for his documentary ‘All That Breathes’. “A Night of Knowing Nothing” directed by Payal Kapadia has won the L’Oeil d’Or in 2021.

IPL 2022 Final: Gujarat Titans won the title
Gujarat Titans on May 29 won their maiden Indian Premier League title after beating Rajasthan Royals in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, was the 15th edition of the professional Twenty20 cricket league established by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Needing 131 runs to win, GT chased down the target with seven wickets and 11 balls to spare. Shubman Gill scored an unbeaten 45 while David Miller also contributed with a 19-ball 32. Earlier, Hardik Pandya starred with the ball as GT managed to restrict RR to total of 130 for nine RR took three for 17 from his quota of four overs, while R Sai Kishore also took two wickets. For RR, Jos Buttler top-scored with a 35-ball 39. Initially, RR had won the toss and elected to bat.

Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala shot dead
Days after the Punjab government reduced his security cover, along with that of many others, Congress leader and popular Punjabi singer Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu Moosewala was shot dead near Mansa on Sunday. The incident happened a day after the Punjab Police ordered the withdrawal of security of his security along with more than 420 people, including former MLAs, Jathedars of two Takhts, heads of Deras, and police officers.
Who was Sidhu Moose Wala?
Born on June 17, 1993, Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu aka Sidhu Moose Wala belonged to the Moose Wala village in Mansa district. Moose Wala had a fan following running into millions and was popular for his rap. Moose Wala held a degree in electrical engineering. He had learned music during his college days and had later moved to Canada. Sidhu Moose Wala had contested this year’s Punjab assembly election on a Congress ticket from Mansa and was defeated by AAP candidate Vijay Singla by a huge margin of 63,000 votes.
Uttarakhand formed panel to implement Uniform Civil Code
The Uttarakhand government has formed an expert committee headed by a retired Supreme Court judge for implementing Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and to check all the relevant laws that control personal matters for those living in Uttarakhand. A state government order said that a five-member committee will be headed by retired Supreme Court judge Ranjana Desai, who currently heads the Delimitation Commission of India. Other members of the committee are: Delhi High Court judge Pramod Kohli, ex-state chief secretaries Shatrughan Singh, Manu Gaud and Surekha Dangwal.
The Governor has given his permission to establish an expert committee to check all the relevant laws which control personal matters for people living in Uttarakhand and to prepare a report on amendments in the present laws
What is Uniform Civil Code?
The UCC is referred to a common set of laws governing personal matters such as marriage, divorce, adoption, inheritance and succession for all citizens, irrespective of religion. The UCC will be an important step to solidify the spirit of the Constitution. This will also be an effective step toward Article 44 of the Constitution which talks about securing a UCC for every citizen of the country. The apex court, too, from time to time has emphasised on its implementation.
