NMCG Plants 75 Saplings to Create Amrit Vatika
National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) has created Namami Gange Amrit Vatika at Kalindi Kunj Ghat on River Yamuna in New Delhi with the planting of 75 saplings under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. The plantation activities were carried out under the initiative Yamuna Ghat par Vriksharopan. The project Yamuna Ghat par Vriksharopan served as the umbrella organization for the plantation works. The Union Government of India authorised the Namami Gange Program, an integrated conservation mission, as a “Flagship Program” in June 2014 with a financial commitment of Rs. 20,000 crore.
Speaking at the event, Director General of NMCG G. Asok Kumar stated that one of the Namami Gange Program’s main areas of concentration is cleaning up Ganga tributaries, particularly Yamuna. The attendees were inspired by him to join the Clean Yamuna initiative. The National Mission for Clean Ganga regularly hosts a cleanliness drive on the River Yamuna in Delhi on the fourth Saturday of each month.
International Plastic Bag Free Day 2022: 03 July
International Plastic Bag Free Day is celebrated on July 3 all over the world with an aim to encourage countries to ban single-use plastic. 2022 is the 13th edition of the celebrations. The day is an initiative by Bag Free World for the purpose of getting rid of the single-use of plastic bags around the world and promoting environmental conservation by encouraging us all to stay away from the use of plastic bags and instead look for more eco-friendly alternatives.
International Plastic Bag Free Day 2022: Significance
The main goal of the day is to raise awareness of the growing harm that the use of this non-biodegradable substance is causing to the environment. It is concerning to learn that a plastic bag takes 1,000 years to disintegrate in a landfill, despite the fact that collective efforts over the past 10 years have drastically decreased the impact thus far.
International Plastic Bag Free Day: History
According to National Today, International Plastic Bag Free Day is an initiative by Bag Free World. The Great Plastic Patch was discovered in the ocean in 1997. Thereafter, people across the globe started discussing the ill effects of using plastics in everyday life.
In 2002, Bangladesh became the first nation to ban plastics. The country imposed single-use plastic ban after it was highlighted that plastics clogged up storm drains thereby worsening floods. The piling of plastic waste was also cited as a reason for waterlogging in the country.
Himachal CM launches ‘Naari Ko Naman’ scheme
Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Jai Ram Thakur has launched the ‘Naari Ko Naman’ scheme.
Aim: 50 % concession on fares in Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) buses to women commuters within the state boundaries.
He has also announced a reduction in the minimum bus fare from Rs 7 to Rs 5 to all passengers across the state. The government will sanction 25 new posts of women drivers in the ‘Ride With Pride’ government taxi service.

Bank deposit growth slows down in March 2022: RBI
As per the Reserve Bank of India data, the growth of bank deposit has moderated to 10% in March 2022 as compared with 11.9% in 2021. Current, savings and term deposits have been increased by 10.9%, 13.3% and 7.9%, respectively, during 2021-22.
The share of current account and savings account (CASA) deposits has been increasing over the years and stood at 44.8% in March 2022 as compared with 41.7% three years ago.
ReNew Power, UNEP, SEWA collaborate to train women as solar technician
ReNew Power has collaborated with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and Self-Employed Women’s Association of India (SEWA) to launch ‘Project Surya’.
Aim: To train low-income women salt pan workers to work as solar technicians.
Women salt pan workers will be trained as solar panel and solar pump technicians at Dhokavada village in the Patan district of Gujarat. The programme will be supported by the government’s National Skill Development Corporation.
Yair Lapid takes over as 14th prime minister of Israel
Leader of Yesh Atid Party, Yair Lapid has been officially became the 14th prime minister of Israel, after replacing Naftali Bennett. His term could be a fairly short one, as he takes over a caretaker government ahead of national elections on November 1.
He is a former journalist who serving as PM of Israel since July 1, 2022. Naama Schultz has been appointed as a director-general of the Prime Minister’s office.

Singapore’s T. Raja Kumar is new president of FATF
Indian- origin T Raja Kumar has been appointed as President of world’s anti-terrorism financing agency, Financial Action Task Force (FATF) for two years (July 2022 -June 2024). He succeeded Dr Marcus Pleyer, who served as the chief of the FATF.
He will be responsible for enhancing the effectiveness of global anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing measures. He has a working experience in home ministry of Singapore and police force.
