Maharashtra Cabinet approved ‘Maharashtra Gene Bank Project’
Maharashtra Cabinet has given its approval for the ‘Maharashtra Gene Bank’ in order to conserve genetic resources in Maharashtra including marine diversity, seeds of local crops, and animal diversity.
The government also sanctioned Rs 172.39 crore for implementing the action plan for the next five years. Earlier, the Maharashtra government budget had created a separate account head for the same, which will benefit the local communities using traditional and scientific knowledge for sustainable development. The Maharashtra State Biodiversity Board (MSBB) will implement the project and will be examined by committees under the chief secretary and the principal secretary (forests).
The ‘Maharashtra Gene Bank Project’ will work on seven areas:
- Marine biodiversity
- Local crop/seed varieties
- Indigenous cattle breeds
- Freshwater biodiversity
- Grassland, scrubland, and animal grazing land biodiversity
- Conservation and management plans for areas under forest right
- Rejuvenation of forest areas.
PV Sindhu wins a bronze at Asian Badminton Championships
PV Sindhu wins a bronze at Asian Badminton Championships – PV Sindhu failed in her bid to change the colour of the medal at the Badminton Asia Championships as she lost 21-13, 19-21, 16-21 to Akane Yamaguchi of Japan in the semifinals in Manila on Saturday. Her previous medal was also a bronze at Gimcheon in 2014.
She received her first bronze in the Asia Badminton Championships 2014 Gimcheon edition. She won silver in 2016 Rio de Janeiro, and bronze in 2020 Tokyo.
Delhi’s IGI replaces Dubai as the world’s 2nd busiest airport in March 2022
Delhi’s IGIA emerged as the world’s second-busiest airport in March in terms of total seat capacity and frequency of domestic and international flights. Leading global travel data operator, Official Airline Guide (OAG), said that Indira Gandhi International Airport handled about 31.65 million domestic passengers and 5.49 million international ones.
Atlanta is at the top position as the largest and followed by Delhi’s airport and Dubai airport is at 2nd and 3rd. Guangzhou has fallen from 4th busiest last month to 10th busiest during this period due to ongoing restrictions in China.
Former Amazon Music CEO Sahas Malhotra joins JioSaavn as CEO
JioSaavn has named Sahas Malhotra, a former Amazon Music director and entertainment industry expert, as its new CEO. Previously, Sahas Malhotra worked for Sony Music India and Tips Industries. Sahas Malhotra was the business leader at Tips Music and the marketing director for Tips Film Production at Tips Industries.
He is having over 24 years of experience in the entertainment sector, including team development, film marketing, music P&L management, licensing, media planning, music publishing, and product management.
Vinay Mohan Kwatra as India’s new Foreign Secretary
Seasoned diplomat Vinay Mohan Kwatra has taken charge as India’s new foreign secretary at a time in New Delhi. A 1988-batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, Mr. Kwatra succeeded Harsh Vardhan Shringla who retired from service on Saturday.
- Prior to this, Mr Kwatra was serving as India’s envoy to Nepal.
Who is Vinay Mohan Kwatra
- He is a 1988-batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer.
- Before his diplomatic posting to Nepal in 2020, he served as the Ambassador of India to France from August 2017 to February 2020.
- He has a career diplomat with over 32 years of experience.
- Kwatra also held the position of a Joint Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) for two years between October 2015 and August 2017.
Andy Jassy will be new Amazon’s CEO on July 5th
Andy Jassy will become the new Chief Executive Officer of Amazon and will assume the charge of the CEO of Amazon on July 5th. The news came as Jeff Bezos revealed he will be formally stepping down as CEO to transition to executive chairman of Amazon’s board. Jassy who is the current CEO of Amazon Web Services (AWS), would replace Jeff Bezos as CEO of the entire company in February.
Bezos will be the executive chair of Amazon’s board. He became part of the company in the late ’90s and was tasked with exploring what would become AWS around 2003.

Indian Army Red Shield Division signed an MoU for ‘Manipur Super 50’
Red Shield Division of Indian Army under the aegis of Spear Corps on Saturday entered into a tripartite agreement with State Bank of India Foundation (SBIF) and National Integrity and Educational Development Organization (NIEDO) to establish ‘Red Shield Centre for Excellence and Wellness’ in Manipur’s Bishnupur district.
The project ‘Manipur Super 50’ is expected to be fully functional for the first batch of 50 students by the first week of July, 2022.

Union Bank as first public sector bank to go live on the Account Aggregator framework
Union Bank of India became the first public sector bank to go live on the Account Aggregator (AA) ecosystem, the bank said on April 29, which facilitates sharing of financial information on a real-time basis between the regulated entities.
Reserve Bank of India licensed Account Aggregator (AA) ecosystem in order to enable the flow of data between Financial Information Providers (FIPs) and Financial Information Users (FIUs). The Account Aggregator Ecosystem aims to help the Lenders to leverage Digital data acquired with the consent of the Customers for providing them with a seamless journey and eliminating the need of physical documentation.
Ayushman Bharat Diwas 2022
Every year, Ayushmaan Bharat Diwas is observed on April 30th in India to uplift the ideals of Ayushman Bharat Yojna. in 2018, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a health scheme named Ayushman Bharat Yojna in order to fulfilment of the objectives of the government of India that align with SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) of the United Nations.
It is celebrated to promote the significance of the campaign to provide medical facilities to all the remote areas of the country and to provide healthcare facilities to every needy citizen in the country. On this day a scheme called Ayushman Bharat Yojana was also introduced by the prime minister of India Narendra Modi. The scheme is also known as the National health protection scheme.
The main aim of the Ayushman Bharat Diwasis to promote affordable healthcare facilities in the country’s remotest areas based on the Socio-Economic Caste Census database. The Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojna (PM-JAY) is an important component of the Ayushman Bharat Yojna.

Home Minister inaugurates NATGRID Bengaluru campus
Union Minister for Home and Cooperation, Amit Shah has inaugurated National Intelligence Grid (NATGRID) Bengaluru campus.

Joydeep Karmakar appointed as National Chief Rifle Coach by NRAI
Joydeep Karmakar (42 years) has been appointed as the chief national rifle coach by National Rifle Association of India (NRAI).
He will oversee Indian continent till 2025, including the Paris Olympics 2024. He had missed a bronze medal by a whisker in men’s 50-metre rifle prone event at 2012 London Olympics.
He has been running his own shooting academy in Kolkata since 2015. NRAI was founded in 1951 to promote and popularize the shooting sports in India.
