Chhattisgarh launched ‘Mukhyamantri Mitaan Yojana’
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has launched a doorstep delivery scheme named Mukhyamantri Mitaan Yojna (Mitaan stands for a friend). The scheme will be implemented as a pilot project in 14 civic bodies. Citizens of Chhattisgarh can avail around 100 public services, including delivery of birth, caste, income and marriage certificates, at their doorstep under a new scheme launched by the state government
In the first phase:
13 services in 14 municipal corporation areas have been included under the ‘Mitaan’ scheme as announced by the CM in his budget speech for the fiscal year 2022-23. Under the Scheme, people can contact the ‘Mitaan’ (nominated individual) on the toll-free number (14545) for the service. The required documents of the residents will be collected from their homes through the Mitaan, who will then scan the certificates and get the processes rolling for the issuance of certificates or services.
Once the concerned department issues the certificate, it will then be delivered at the citizen’s doorstep by the ‘Mitaan’ in a sealed envelope within the prescribed time limit.
HDFC ERGO launches ‘Pay as you Drive’ program
HDFC ERGO General Insurance Company has announced to launch of its ‘Pay as you Drive’ program, this insurance offers distance-based insurance to reduce upfront costs of premium.
The program will be available for owners of new Maruti Suzuki cars in selected cities up to May 14, 2022. This program is applicable for 10,000 policies or ₹50 lacs of premium whichever happens earlier.
The driving distance will be measured with the help of a telematics device in the vehicle.
FidyPay ties-up with Yes Bank to push financial inclusion
FidyPay (fintech API platform) has joined hands with Yes Bank to expand the digital facility to a wide range of enterprises, including SMEs, fintech companies, and start-ups.
The fintech platform will provide Yes Bank customers with a smooth connected banking experience as part of the partnership. FidyPay will also serve as UPI services solution provider.
FidyPay is backed by Mr. Pratekk Agarwal (the former CBO of BharatPe) and Mr. Ram Pathade (CEO of Mahagram).
IRDAI raised investment up to 30% of assets in BFSI sector
The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (Irdai) has increased the investment ceiling for insurance companies in the banking, financial services, and insurance (BFSI) sector to 30% from 25% of their investment corpus.
The existing sectoral investment cap of 25% has been fully utilised by most insurance firms. This will help insurance companies to take a higher exposure in the BFSI sector.

Satyajit Ray’s birth Anniversary, National Museum of Indian Cinema will host film festival
On the 101st birth anniversary of Satyajit Ray, the National Museum of Indian Cinema, Mumbai under the Union Information and Broadcasting ministry will host a three day film festival at various venues across India to screen films made by the legendary filmmaker. It will also show movies about Satyajit Ray.
KEY POINTS:
- The National Museum of Indian Cinema, Mumbai is organizing the film festival in association with the National Film Development Corporation, Films Division, National Film Archives of India and Doordarshan and supported by the Government of West Bengal and Arora Film Corporation and Friends Communication, the statement said. .
- Anik Dutta’s Aparajito, which will receive its ‘India Premiere’, will be the festival’s opening film. The film is a tribute to Satyajit Ray’s classic Pather Panchali, which was inspired by the making of the film.
- On May 4, a panel discussion will follow the screening of Pather Panchali, the internationally famous movie on human documenting that Ray first exposed to the globe.
- For all audiences, especially cinephiles and admirers of Ray’s work, the panel discussion will be webcast live on NFDC’s official Facebook page.
- Director Shyam Benegal, Ray’s favourite actor Barun Chanda, and music composer Shantanu Moitra will be on the panel.
- Aside from the premiere of Dutta’s Aparajito, which is set to hit theatres on May 13, the other films are NFDC’s Agantuk, Ghare Baire, and Ganashatru, all directed by Ray.
- The event will also feature a screening of Satyajit Ray’s documentary on Rabindranath Tagore, directed by Utpalendu Chakraborty.
Kerala lift the Santosh Trophy for seventh time
Kerala has defeated the 32-time champion West Bengal in a penalty shootout to win its 75th Santhosh Trophy National Tournament for the seventh time at the Payyanad Stadium in Malappuram, Kerala. This is the first time that Kerala has won on home soil since 1993.

JAIN University(Deemed-to-be University) with 20 gold, 7 silver and 5 bronze medals has won the 2nd edition of the Khelo India University Games 2021.
Lovely Professional University (LPU) with 17 golds has placed second and Punjab University placed third with 15 gold medals. Siva Sridhar has emerged as the star swimmer by winning 11 gold.

World Press Freedom Index 2022: India ranked 150th
The index released by Reporters Without Borders(RSF) on May 3, which is observed as the World Press Freedom Day, assesses the state of journalism in 180 countries and territories. The Index highlights the disastrous effects of news and information chaos – the effects of a globalised and unregulated online information space that encourages fake news and propaganda.
Key points of the Index:
- India has slipped 8 places on the World Press Freedom Index 2022. With a global score of 41, India has gone down to the 150th position from 142 last year.
- The ranking of India’s neighbours, except that of Nepal, has also slid down, with the index placing. Nepal has climbed up by 30 points in the global ranking at 76th position.
- The ranking of India’s neighbours, except that of Nepal, have also slid down, with the index placing Pakistan at 157th position, Sri Lanka 146th, Bangladesh 162nd and Maynmar at 176th position, the report released by Reporters Without Borders said.
- Norway (1st) Denmark (2nd), Sweden (3rd) Estonia (4th) and Finland (5th) grabbed the top positions, while North Korea remained at the bottom of the list of the 180 countries and territories.
- Russia was placed at 155th position, down from 150th last year, while China climbed up by two positions with the Reporters Without Borders placing it at 175th position. Last year, China was placed at 177th position.
- The invasion of Ukraine (106th) by Russia (155th) at the end of February reflects this process, as the physical conflict was preceded by a propaganda war.

Rajiv Ranjan appointed as ex-officio member of Monetary Policy Committee
The Central Board of Directors of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved nomination of Rajiv Ranjan as ex-officio member of Monetary Policy Committee (MPC).
Prior to this, he was an advisor in-charge in the monetary policy department, before he was elevated as an executive director. MPC is a 6-member body and is headed by RBI governor. There are 3 members from RBI and 3 members nominated by Govt.

Sangeeta Singh gets an additional charge of CBDT Chairman
Sangeeta Singh, an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer has been given additional charge of Chairman, Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) for a period of three months or till a regular Chairman is appointed.
She has replaced JB Mohapatra who retired as the head of the direct taxes administration body on April 30. She is currently holding charge of Audit and Judicial and an additional charge of Income Tax and Revenue and Tax Payers services.

The Times Higher Education (THE) has released the 2022 edition of its Impact Rankings. 8 Universities from India are placed in the top 300 universities in the world.
The ranking is topped by Western Sydney University (Australia); followed by Arizona State University (The US), Western University (Canada).
