Zulfiquar Hasan appointed as the New DG of BCAS

Zulfiquar Hasan appointed as the New DG of BCAS

Senior IPS officer, Zulfiquar Hasan has been appointed as the new Director-General of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS). Zulfiquar Hasan has been appointed “for a tenure up to his superannuation on 31.10.2024”. The two administrators appointed are both from 1988 batch IPS officers. Hasan was serving as the Special Director General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), in Delhi. He is a West Bengal-cadre IPS officer.

The post of the Director-General, BCAS has been vacant since January 4 after incumbent Nasir Kamal opted for voluntary retirement. The former DG Nasir Kamal opted for voluntary retirement and it has been vacant since then. In an additional capacity, the BCAS joint DG Jaideep Prasad has been handling the charge of the DG. The BCAS functions under the Union Civil Aviation Ministry and handles the tasks related to framing security-related protocols for Aviation operations.

The SSB chief’s post has been vacant after the incumbent DG Kumar Rajesh Chandra, who retired on 31st December 2021. The additional charges of the SSB have been handled by DG Sanjay Arora. SL Thaosen has been ordered to be appointed as the DG of SSB up to his superannuation which is 30th November 2023.

The theme of World Food Safety Day 2022 is “Safer food, better health”. The theme highlights that safe, nutritional food plays an important role in ensuring human health. 

The slogan for World Food Safety Day is “Food safety is everyone’s business”.

World Food Safety Day 2022: Significance

World Food Safety Day on 7 June aims to draw attention and inspire action to help prevent, detect and manage foodborne risks, contributing to food security, human health, economic prosperity, agriculture, market access, tourism and sustainable development. The World Health Organization (WHO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) jointly facilitate the observance of World Food Safety Day, in collaboration with Member States and other relevant organizations. This international day is an opportunity to strengthen efforts to ensure that the food we eat is safe, mainstream food safety in the public agenda and reduce the burden of foodborne diseases globally.

World Food Safety Day 2022: History

The United Nations General Assembly established World Food Safety Day in 2018 to raise awareness of this vital food safety issue. The WHO and Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) jointly kickstarted World Food Safety Day in collaboration with the member states and other stakeholders.

MS Dhoni invests for Chennai drone company Garuda Aerospace

Former Indian cricket team captain MS Dhoni, has invested an undisclosed sum in Chennai based drone company, Garuda Aerospace. , India’s leading drone-as-a-service (DaaS) provider. He will also be the face and brand ambassador of the company. The investment is part of a bridge round, ahead of a $30-million Series A round, which the company is currently in the process of closing by end-July at a valuation of $250 million, confirmed founder Agnishwar Jayaprakash.

About the Garuda Aerospace:

Started in 2015, Garuda Aerospace has made significant inroads into the drone startup ecosystem. The company provides low-cost drone-based solutions and has designed drones for 38 diverse applications, including sanitisation, agriculture spraying, mapping, industries, security, delivery and surveillance.

Garuda has also forayed into the defence sector by bagging a significant order for 33 anti-drone systems for the ministry of defence. In Uttar Pradesh, under Svamitva, a survey of land was done to map 1,000 villages. This was done to make digital records of ownership, which are being made available online.

The 22nd edition of the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards was held in Abu Dhabi on the first weekend of June 2022 with the IIFA Rocks event held on Friday, 3rd June, and the main awards night on Saturday, 4th June. This year the IIFA 2022 Awards was hosted by Salman Khan, Maniesh Paul and Riteish Deshmukh. Sidharth Malhotra’s Shershaah dominated the awards this year, with the film winning in as many as five categories. Sardar Udham, Mimi and Ludo won in two categories each.

The Times Higher Education (THE) released the 2022 edition of the Asia University Rankings on Wednesday, June 1. The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Banglore continued to be the best institute of the country. It ranked at 42nd place. THE Asia University Rankings 2022 comprises 616 universities from 31 countries and territories, with India being the third most-represented country, with 71 universities making it to the list. With 42nd rank, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore is the only institute to make the top-50 list.India was the third most-represented country, behind Japan and mainland China with 71 institutions. 17 Indian universities topped the list under top 200.

According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Ambani who has a net worth of $99.7 billion added $9.69 billion in 2022. Mr Ambani is followed by Gautam Adani on the global billionaire list. Adani is ranked ninth with Net worth $98.7 billion in the Bloomberg Billionaire index.

Reliance Industries chairman and managing director Mukesh Ambani became Asia’s richest man on June 3 after a record rally in shares, surpassing Adani group chairman Gautam Adani. According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Ambani who has a net worth of $99.7 billion added $9.69 billion in 2022. Mr Ambani is followed by Gautam Adani on the global billionaire list. Tamil Nadu CM, MK Stalin has flagged off the luxury cruise liner “Empress” from Chennai port.

This is the eleven-storey tourist vessel which can accommodate up to two thousand passengers and about 800 crew members. The vessel has a swimming pool, children’s play area, gym, theatre and a multi-cuisine restaurant. This is considered the first luxury cruise liner to be operated from the state.

The chairman of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Dr S Somanath has inaugurated ANANTH Technologies’ spacecraft manufacturing unit at Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) Aerospace Park.

It can conduct assembly integration and testing of four large spacecraft simultaneously. Ananth has contributed to the manufacturing of 89 satellites and 69 launch vehicles built/launched by ISRO.

Indian American girl, Harini Logan from Texas has won the 2022 Scripps National Spelling Bee.

She has spelled 21 words correctly to win the prestigious 2022 Scripps National Spelling Bee and defeated Vikram Raju in a marathon.

Prize money: USD 50,000 cash prize and Scripps Cup trophy on top of awards from Merriam-Webster and Encyclopedia Britannica. She is the fifth Scripps champion to be coached by Grace Walters.
