Andhra Pradesh launched ‘14400 app’ to report corrupt officials

Andhra Pradesh launched ‘14400 app’ to report corrupt officials

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy launched the ‘14400’ app. Through the app, developed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), people can lodge corruption-related complaints against officials in the State. This app also aims to ensure fool-proof evidence to present before the court. A complaint can be filed through a toll-free number 14400.

How does the app work?

Earlier, people could file a complaint via the toll-free number, 14400, but they were less likely to submit evidence with it. Hence, the ACB would not be able to solve cases due to lack of substantial evidence to probe the matter.

The ACB 14400 app can be downloaded from the Google play store. An OTP will be to the mobile number through which registration is being done, and once registered, the app will be ready to use. This app has two key features:

  • One is to live record audio, photo, or video and lodge a complaint instantly.
  • A citizen can capture photograph, record audio/video relating to corruption in “Live Status” and submit the complaint directly.

After a complaint is lodged, a reference number will be sent to the registered mobile number. The IOS version of this app will soon be launched. Any person who has been asked for a bribe from any government official including the RDO office, collector office, Mandal level office, sub-registrar office, police station, etc, must download this app and record the conversation following which it would reach the ACB. The ACB has been directed to report to the Chief Minister’s office.

World Oceans Day observed on 8th June

World Oceans Day is celebrated annually on 8 June to remind us of the important role of the oceans in sustaining our livelihoods and the necessity to prevent them from destruction. According to the United Nations (UN), oceans are the lungs of our planet and a major source of food and medicine, and a critical part of the biosphere. The day intends to highlight the various resources that mankind derives from the ocean, as well as the various threats that the ocean faces.

Theme

The theme for World Oceans Day this year is “Revitalization: Collective Action for the Ocean.”

History

The concept of World Oceans Day was first proposed by the UN in 1992 at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro. It was suggested that a day be observed to raise awareness about the crucial role oceans play in our lives and ways in which people can help protect them. Since 2002, the World Ocean Network has built support for ocean awareness events on June 8 with the help of sponsorship from UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission. On December 5, 2008, the UN General Assembly passed a resolution to designate this day.
