World Radiography Day 2022: Theme, Significance and History
World Radiography Day 2022: Theme, Significance and History– The discovery of X-radiation, or X-rays, is celebrated annually on November 8 as World Radiography Day. This day in 1895 saw the completion of German scientist Wilhelm Conrad Rontgen’s discovery of X-radiation, or X-rays. He awarded the first Nobel Prize in Physics in 1901 for this accomplishment. This year, we will be celebrating the 11th International Day of Radiology on 11 November and this is observed by all the medical imaging professionals from across the world.
World Radiography Day 2022: Theme
“Radiographers in the Forefront of Patient Safety” is the theme of the 2022 International Day of Radiology. This theme aims to encourage all radiologists, radiographers, radiological technologists, and professionals to recognize and promote the essential role of radiology in the treatment of a patient.
World Radiography Day 2022: Significance
World Radiography Day celebrates the anniversary of the discovery of Xrays in 1895 and is used as a platform to raise public awareness of radiographic imaging and therapy. The discovery of X-ray has been one of the most important breakthroughs in science. It is able to help people identify several ailments and issues. This is especially important since x-rays are not an invasive procedure and are quite quick when compared to other diagnostic scans like MRI or CT scan. World Radiography Day marks the anniversary of his medical marvel. It also aims to help raise awareness about getting regular medical check-ups done without it giving you a scare. These medical check-ups can be easy, quick, and non-invasive as x-rays.
ISRRT also commemorates the day to recognize and acknowledge the knowledge, skills, and expertise of radiographers and radiologists around the globe. They aim to extend their gratitude for these medical professionals, who make efforts every day to support and care for their patients.
World Radiography Day: History
According to many sources, the first World Radiography Day was observed in 2007 by the International Society of Radiographers and Radiological Technologists on November 8. However, the European Society of Radiology (ESR), Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), and American College of Radiology (ACR) joined forces in 2012 to arrange the first significant commemoration of the day. The 11th anniversary of International Day of Radiology will be celebrated this year.
X-rays were discovered accidentally in the year 1895 by Professor Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen while he was working with a cathode-ray tube in his laboratory. He noticed a fluorescent glow of crystals on a table near his tube, which contained a bulb with negative and positive electrodes. When the air from the tube was evacuated, a high voltage was applied, and the tube produced a fluorescent glow. When the tube was covered with black paper and that material was placed a few feet away from the tube, it generated a green fluorescent light.
About the Radiology:
Radiology is the medical discipline that uses medical imaging to diagnose and treat diseases within the bodies of animals and humans. A variety of imaging techniques such as X-ray radiography, ultrasound, computed tomography (CT), nuclear medicine including positron emission tomography (PET), fluoroscopy, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are used to diagnose or treat diseases. Interventional radiology is the performance of usually minimally invasive medical procedures with the guidance of imaging technologies such as those mentioned above.

An infant’s development is crucial in the first three months after birth, as their hearing, vision, motor movement, and communication improve at this stage only. They also start bonding with their parents at this time. According to a report by the World Health Organization, in 2019 over 2.4 million infants died in their first month of life. Every day more than 7000 children die, putting child mortality of those aged 5 and under at 47 percent.
Infant Protection Day 2022: Significance
The main reason behind the commemoration of Infant’s Protection Day is to take steps to protect the lives of infants. On this day, the government hopes to raise awareness about the protection and nurturing that infants require. This day also seeks to provide every child with the strong health and immunity they deserve.
While highlighting the need of improving immunological support, this day also emphasises the measures that the government should take into account in order to promote effective healthcare systems.

In 1990, nearly 5 million infants died due to a lack of awareness of the protection of Infants. This prompted many countries to take the necessary steps for better child health care and to reduce Infant Mortality Rate (IMR). As a result of this, the Infant Mortality Rate has decreased from 100 to 10 deaths per 1000 births. Later, America joined in this as well.
Russia Becomes India’s Top Oil Supplier In October
Russia Becomes India’s Top Oil Supplier In October: Russia, which met India’s minimal oil requirements till March this year, emerged as the country’s biggest oil supplier in October surpassing traditional sellers Saudi Arabia and Iraq, India’s private news network. This comes amid an ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine that has also seen many Western nations issue sanctions against Russian Federation.
November 2022 Current Affairs Quiz
About The Trend:
According to the data, Russia supplied India with 935,556 barrels per day (bpd) of crude oil in October, which was a record high. In the year ending March 31, 2022, Russia accounted for just 0.2% of all the oil that India imported. Russia now supplies almost 22% of India’s total crude imports, ahead of Iraq’s 20.5 per cent and Saudi Arabia’s 16 per cent.
About The Time-Line:
India’s appetite for Russian oil swelled ever since it started trading on discount as the West shunned it to punish Moscow for its invasion of Ukraine.
In December 2021, India purchased 36,255 barrels per day of crude oil from Russia, compared to 1.05 million barrels per day from Iraq and 952,625 bpd per day from Saudi Arabia. There were no imports from Russia in the following two months but they resumed in March, soon after the Ukraine war broke out in late February. India imported 68,600 bpd of Russian oil in March while it increased to 266,617 bpd in the following month and peaked to 942,694 bpd in June. But in June, Iraq was India’s top supplier with 1.04 million bpd of oil. Russia in that month became India’s second biggest supplier.
Imports dipped marginally in the following two months. They stood at 876,396 bpd in September before rising to 835,556 bpd in October.
Other Peers Place:
Iraq slipped to No.2 slot with 888,079 bpd of supplies in October, followed by Saudi Arabia at 746,947 bpd.
What Is The Govt Instance:
The Indian government has been vehemently defending its trade with Russia, saying it has to source oil from where it is cheapest. On being asked if India faces a moral conflict due to import from Russia amid the latter’s conflict with Ukraine, he had stated: “Absolutely none. There is no moral conflict. We don’t buy from X or Y. We buy whatever is available. Government does not buy, it’s the oil companies which do the buying.”
India has also remained non-committal on a plan proposed by the G7 group of nations (UK, US, Canada, France, Germany, Italy and Japan) to fix the price of oil purchased from Russia as a way of limiting Moscow’s revenues.

The Aditya L-1 and Chandrayaan-3 missions would be prioritised, as early as next year, the missions to Venus and the moon with JAXA were expected to follow.
