Chennai-Mysore-Chennai Shatabdi Express gets IMS certification

The Chennai-Mysore-Chennai Shatabdi Express has become the first Integrated Management Systems (IMS) certified train of Southern Railway. It has also become the first Shatabdi train and second mail/express train of Indian Railways to receive the IMS certification.

It got the certificate for world-class maintenance of the train, environment-friendly resources, and convenient and safe travel of the passengers.

The IMS certificate provided are ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, and ISO 45001:2018. The first train of Indian Railways to be IMS certified is Habibganj-Hazrat Nizamuddin-Habibganj Bhopal Express.

Dr Jitendra Singh dedicates ‘Sardar Patel Leadership Centre’ to the Nation in Mussoorie

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Science & Technology; Minister of State (Independent Charge) Earth Sciences; MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh dedicated “Sardar Patel Leadership Centre” to the nation at Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA), Mussoorie. The facility was inaugurated on the occasion of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas on October 31, 2021, which marks the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

The Sardar Patel Leadership Centre aims to lay the foundation capacity building for future generations of Civil Servants from India and Abroad, as visualised by the Father of All India Services.

The Centre aims to emerge as a Huge Resource Centre to provide continuous study and learning opportunities to Civil Servants so that they learn from the best practices of leadership across the world while remaining connected with their cultural ethos, values and roots.

Yezdi Nagporewalla named as new CEO of KPMG India

KPMG India has a new Chief Executive Officer in Yezdi Nagporewalla for a four-year term commencing on February 7, 2022, and ending on December 31, 2026. Nagporewalla will replace the current Chairman and CEO, Arun M. Kumar, who completes his five-year term on February 6, 2022.

With the new appointment, KPMG India has split the roles of Chairman and CEO. The new Chairman will be named over the next few months.

CSIR developed indigenous Mechanized Scavenging System

Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) demonstrated the CSIR-CMERI, Durgapur developed indigenous Mechanized Scavenging System successfully at the premises of the CSIR-National Physical Laboratory.

This cost-effective machine will be deployed in Metro and tier-2 and tier-3 cities It will handle the blockage caused by plastic and other non-biodegradable domestic thrown-away items, debris, intrusion of tree roots, etc. It is benchmarked with the market available system in India.

DRDO & IAF jointly flight test Long-Range Bomb successfully

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Air Force (IAF) on October 29, 2021, jointly flight-tested an indigenously developed Long-Range Bomb (LRB) successfully from an aerial platform in Odisha.

After being released from IAF fighter aircraft, LR Bomb guided to a land-based target at a long-range with accuracy within specified limits.

Flight of the bomb and performance was monitored by the number of range sensors including Electro-Optical Tracking System (EOTS), Telemetry, and radar deployed by ITR, Odisha.

Union Minister Amit Shah launches the “Dairy Sahakar” scheme

Union Minister of Home Affairs Amit Shah launched the “Dairy Sahakar” scheme at Gujarat’s Anand on October 31, 2021, with the overall objectives of doubling the farmers’ income and Atmanirbhar Bharat. Gujarat during a function organized by Amul to celebrate the 75th Foundation Year of Amul.

“The Dairy Sahakar, with a total investment of Rs 5000 crore will be implemented by NCDC, under the Ministry of Cooperation, to realize the vision: “from cooperation to prosperity”,” the ministry said.

The scheme will be implemented by National Cooperative Development Corporation under the Ministry of Cooperation. The scheme will supplement the existing efforts of strengthening the dairy sector in the country, doubling the farmer’s income as well as realizing the vision of ‘from cooperation to prosperity’. Under the scheme, NCDC will extend financial support to eligible cooperatives for activities like bovine development, milk procurement, processing, quality assurance, value addition, branding, packaging, marketing, transportation and storage of milk and milk products, exports of dairy products among others.

Microsoft surpasses Apple to become the world’s most valuable company

Apple Inc.’s stock plunged on October 29, 2021, propelling Microsoft Corp. to the top of the world’s stock market by market capitalization. At market close, Apple stood at about $2.46 trillion while Microsoft reached nearly $2.49 trillion. Apple had held the top position for more than a year.

Centre appoints former SC Judge Ashok Bhushan as NCLAT Chairperson

OVER 19 months after the post was left vacant by the retirement of the then chairperson, Justice S J Mukhopadhaya, in March 2020, the Centre appointed retired Supreme Court Judge, Justice Ashok Bhushan, as the full-time chairperson of the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT), for a period of four years or until he attains the age of 70 years, whichever is the earliest.

Justice Bhushan was the former Chief Justice of Kerala High Court. NCLAT was formed by the government under Section 410 of the Companies Act, 2013.

Apart from this, Justice Ramalingam Sudhakar has been appointed as the new President of the quasi-judicial body, National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) for five years or till he attains the age of 67 years. Justice Sudhakar was the former Chief Justice of Manipur Hig.

India’s biggest aromatic garden opened in Nainital, Uttarakhand

Recently, a beautiful aromatic garden, having 140 fragrant plant species across India, like Tulsi, Chandan, Parijat, etc., planted across 3 acres of land, was opened in Lalkuan, in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand. As per forest officials, this garden is the biggest such facility in the country.

This project has been developed by the research wing of the Uttarakhand Forest Department with the Centre’s Compensatory Afforestation (CAMPA) Funds. The project has been funded under the CAMPA (Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority) scheme of the central government. The garden houses around 140 different species of aromatic species from across India such as Chandan, Tulsi, Parijat, etc.

World Vegan Day: 01 November
